Owings will face seven lefties in a row

POSTED: Thursday, May 21, 2009, 10:22 AM

Righties are hitting .233 with 16 homers off Micah Owings.

Lefties are hitting .274 with 23 home runs.

So maybe it shouldn't come as a surprise that Charlie Manuel has stacked his lineup with southpaws today:

  1. SS Jimmy Rollins (S)
  2. 2B Chase Utley (L)
  3. LF Raul Ibanez (L)
  4. 1B Ryan Howard (L)
  5. RF Matt Stairs (L)
  6. CF Shane Victorino (S)
  7. 3B Greg Dobbs (L)
  8. C Carlos Ruiz (R)
  9. RHP Joe Blanton (RHP)

The lineup have 4 true lefties in a row (Utley, Ibañez, Howard and Stairs), so expect Dusty to bring one of his southpaws early.

Murph, Can tell me if the Phils have expressed any interest at all in Peavy. Rumors are he may be heading to the White Sox. They have Myers/Eaton/Jenkins coming off the books next year to the tune of $30M. With the attendance up this year do they have the ability, in players (Donald,Drbek,Taylor,Brown etc) and $'s, to do a trade like that? A rotation for the next few years of Hamels/Peavy/Happ/Blanton & Carrasco and their offense makes them a contender for a long time. Maybe Peavy doesn't want to come to Philly?

Hope Blanton limited it to 2 or less double-pounders with cheese this week.

If Dusty goes with a LHP early, it's pretty easy to pinch hit Feliz and Werth and play them into their normal spots. I see no weakness in stacking the line-up this way against the starter. I do like the fact that we have a lot of POWER bats on the left side and this guy Owings is vulnerable to the long ball.

Takeitdeep, Eagles fans may be "meatheads" as you state but think before you write next time! Peavy is signed through 2013 (who's the meathead?). He's already getting paid. He may not want to come to Philly. I read he has 2 criteria ; Midwest & Natl League. If he goes to the White Sox he'll get the MW but not the NL. Maybe he's prefer to stay in the NL? I was just wondering if the Phils even inquired. Padres need to dump his salary and should be willing to take less than his actual value.

Chollie's lineup move is working out pretty well. Is there another team in the majors that could stack seven quality leftie bats in a row?
