New additions highlight Phillies Top 10 prospect list

There are some new faces on Baseball America's recently-released Top 10 Phillies prospects list. There are some new faces on Baseball America's recently-released Top 10 Phillies prospects list. That should come as no surprise, seeing as their top two prospects from midseason are currently wearing Astros uniforms (those would be Jarred Cosart and Jon Singleton, traded to Houston for Hunter Pence in July).

The list:

1. Trevor May, rhp
2. Jesse Biddle, lhp
3. Sebastian Valle, c
4. Jonathan Pettibone, rhp
5. Phillippe Aumont, rhp
6. Freddy Galvis, ss
7. Justin DeFratus, rhp
8. Brody Colvin, rhp
9. Jiwan James, of
10. Maikel Franco, 3b

The newcomers to the list include righthander Jonathan Pettibone, who leaps past Brody Colvin after a good season at Class A Clearwater. Pettibone was a 2009 draft pick whom the Phillies went over slot to sign. Colvin is coming off a disappointing season. Phillippe Aumont also jumps up to number five as Baseball America apparently shares in the Phillies' belief that the righthander has turned a corner in his development.

You likely know the rest of the names, with May, Biddle and potentially Valle the organization's only true "blue-chip" prospects. All three are potential Top 100 prospects in the game.

One name to keep your eye on is No. 10, Maikel Franco, who opened some eyes last year at short-season Williamsport. He's a long way off, but the Phillies think he has a shot.
