New additions highlight Phillies Top 10 prospect list
David Murphy, Daily News Staff Writer
There are some new faces on Baseball America's recently-released Top 10 Phillies prospects list. That should come as no surprise, seeing as their top two prospects from midseason are currently wearing Astros uniforms (those would be Jarred Cosart and Jon Singleton, traded to Houston for Hunter Pence in July).
The list:
| 1. | Trevor May, rhp |
| 2. | Jesse Biddle, lhp |
| 3. | Sebastian Valle, c |
| 4. | Jonathan Pettibone, rhp |
| 5. | Phillippe Aumont, rhp |
| 6. | Freddy Galvis, ss |
| 7. | Justin DeFratus, rhp |
| 8. | Brody Colvin, rhp |
| 9. | Jiwan James, of |
| 10. | Maikel Franco, 3b |
The newcomers to the list include righthander Jonathan Pettibone, who leaps past Brody Colvin after a good season at Class A Clearwater. Pettibone was a 2009 draft pick whom the Phillies went over slot to sign. Colvin is coming off a disappointing season. Phillippe Aumont also jumps up to number five as Baseball America apparently shares in the Phillies' belief that the righthander has turned a corner in his development.
You likely know the rest of the names, with May, Biddle and potentially Valle the organization's only true "blue-chip" prospects. All three are potential Top 100 prospects in the game.
One name to keep your eye on is No. 10, Maikel Franco, who opened some eyes last year at short-season Williamsport. He's a long way off, but the Phillies think he has a shot.
Organization doesnt have much as far as position players, but pitchers remain strong.
Would take a lot to ever trade Biddle with his local connection. FABER

They've sold the farm the last 2 years and the the players and manager have come up very small.
The organization has done everything you could ask. Rube for the most part has done a good job but has left a few areas short(bench was horrible and injuries/age were huge issues at 3B+LF.
I blame the players + Cholly for not having this team motivated to win World Championships. This window of oppurtunity is closing.

When Jesse Biddle is #2 you have problems..can we call houston and ask for ja happ back... Shemp Howard- When an organization has fans stupid enough to be pining for a pitcher with an era over 5.50, that's when you have problems.

Organization has been picked clean! JBinPA
oppurtunity. get ur done. P Even
Is Biddle even 20 yet? That's awfully thin. gordon7
Comment removed.- prospects don't develop overnight. even jason heyward after a stellar rookie season was benched for the stretch run. there's so much doom and gloom. organizations aren't suppose to win 5 division titles in a row. i'm as frustrated as the next phillies fan but honestly, i'm not complaining. better this than being a mets fan. lighten up boyz... the window is still open....

Thin on the field and thick between the ears managerially. Wilhelm Von Humboldt- Wow, what incisive and articulate commentary, delivered after extensive and meticulous research no doubt. Spot on! You see it so clearly, I think you should be running the team. In fact, as a Phillies fan, it's nice to know I can rest easy knowing we have so many plumbers and accountants and mailmen who have all the answers that managers and GMs and scouts who have been in the game their entire lives are too dumb to see. Keep up the good work, Wilhelm!
ajjgc - The system is not as bleak as it would seem from that list. None of the 2011 picks are on the list. Tyler Greene got off to a nice start, and next year, we'll see guys like Larry Greene, Quinn, Walding and Schull. jfar86
every baseball publication was high on brown not just Ba, you typical philly front runner smiggs13
Everybody's pretty quick to give up on Dom Brown. The reality is, they still haven't come close to giving him a "real" chance.
