Myers to make rehab appearance
Daily News staff
Phillies pitcher Brett Myers is scheduled to start and pitch one inning for the Class A Clearwater Threshers on Saturday in the Florida State League.
Myers is recovering from hip surgery and has been on the disabled list since May 30.
He has been in Clearwater for several weeks and has thrown three simulated games, the last one a two-inning effort on Wednesday.

Talk about being in the shadow of the Eagles for a day. Whew, I guess Jeff Lurie is getting desperate... watchin' the "football town" label slip from his grips. randy_w- That'll change after another Joe Blanton gem tonight.
whats up donny boy stoner156
Good thing we have 300 right handed relievers. Bex
Pretty amazing that Myers just had hip surgery 9 weeks ago and he's already thrown in 3 simulated games and now making a rehab appearance. JimG
why only 1 inning? P Even
P-they're getting him only in shape to come out of the Pen. What I want to see, and the main reason why I logged on-has anyone asked Chase Utley to respond to the Vick signing? Don't be surprised if you see the two in an ASPCA add soemtime soon. Skwimua- Soon we will have another closer instead of Dr. Jekyl/Mr Hyde. I dread any game Lidge comes in where we are not ahead by at least 5 runs. He was perfect last year and that was amazing but this year he is well below average.
Myers would look real good as a closer now. All other weaknesses (except for top of lineup concurrent slumps) have been solved. Cliff Lee is best trade since getting Carlton for Rick Wise DR ZEKE
I have been of the mind set that Myers and his schizophrenic arm and brain, needed to go for quite a few years now. Thankfully his contract is up after this season. I thought we were safe when he went on the DL. He didn't have closer stuff this year, before his hip surgery and I doubt he'll have closer stuff after it. He is taking a great chance at causing more hip arthritis and spurs to form by trying to come back so soon and the more he throws (off his push leg which was the one operated on) the more the chance of damage. Hence, the only pitching one inning. Also, because it is his push leg, I suspect he will not have full strength or full velocity this season. I know this how? Because I rehab these injuries for a living. Amazing how you all are praying for anyone but Lidge to close games for us. Lidge is hurt, that's obvious. Is a not fully rehabbed Myers gonna be any help? Probably not. Ditto for Wagner, even if Cholly would take him back, he can't come off the DL and be lights out at his age either. That leaves Ryan (2 run) Madsen as the likely candidate and we saw how he did with that earlier this year. Makes one shudder to think, no? Mark1npt

The way Cliff Lee works reminds me of Steve Carlton. Lee has got to be the best Phillies trade in a decade. Nice job, Amaro and the Phillies scouting staff. What an organization.....this IS THE GOLD STANDARD OF PHILADELPHIA SPORTS!!! walt1
