It was Jamie Moyer's third straight appearance in a "B" game, but it was different from the first two in a couple of ways: First, instead of the minor leaguers he had faced in the first two games, he pitched against a line-up that featured seven Blue Jays regulars, including Lyle Overbay and Jose Bautista. Second, instead of holding Toronto scoreless, he allowed five runs on eight hits in three innings.

Moyer, who is scheduled to make his first Grapefruit League start on Saturday against the Tigers in Lakeland, threw between 60 and 70 pitches today in Dunedin.

Moyer is competing with young righty Kyle Kendrick for the final spot in the Phillies' rotation.

Kendrick threw four scoreless innings yesterday against the Orioles and has yet to allow a run this spring.

Pitching today here in Bradenton against the Pirates are Roy Halladay, Chad Durbin and David Herndon.

Here are the probables for the rest of the week:

Tuesday v. Detroit: LHP Cole Hamels, RHP Ryan Madson, LHP Antonio Bastardo, RHP Danys Baez

Wednesday v. Yankees: RHP Joe Blanton, RHP Jose Contreras, LHP Sergio Escalona, RHP Chad Durbin, RHP David Herndon

Thursday v. Minor Leaguers: LHP J.A. Happ, RHP Brad Lidge

Friday v. Baltimore: RHP Kyle Kendrick, RHP Andrew Carpenter, RHP Ryan Vogelsong, LHP Antonio Bastardo, RHP Danys Baez, RHP Ryan Madson

Saturday at Detroit: RHP Roy Halladay, LHP Jamie Moyer, RHP Jose Contreras, RHP David Herndon, LHP Sergio Escalona

Could it possibly be more obvious? Kendrick starts and Pop-pop gets cut. Enough bs-ing already.

Toast his long career. Toast is what he is now. Buy a rocking chair and enjoy the view, Jamie.

The Phils would never cut Moyer. At worst, he would go to the Pen because he's proved in the past he can make the transition. Hopefully, he can fill one of these roles where they can get something out of him. It would not be a good situation for management if he can't contribute at all this year.

Why does it always have to get so vicious and nasty? If Moyer is done, he's done...celebrate his career and tip your cap to his time here in Philadelphia. If he stays and battles, respect the man for never giving up. Sheesh. Animals.

Not sure how you can say that Moyer would be "useless" in the pen...he was extremely effective in the role last year. With the way Bastardo and Escalona have looked, the move is to bring Moyer as the long lefty out of the pen and let Kendrick start from the get-go. He's been their best -- OK, second best -- starter in Florida...he has to be in the rotation.

We are at the point now where Moyer's intractibility is inhibiting the progress of young talent. He should be mature enough to step aside. If not then the team has to make the right decision, which is obvious. And shame on them for giving a 2 year control to someone in their mid 40s.

Unless Kendrick implodes [and it sure doesn't look like he will], I can't imagine them not allowing him to start. Boy, what a difference a year could make - we might have three right handed starters and two lefties... What do you think of that dynamic Murph???

For the last few years, the Phillies have paid for players that were not longer here (Thome) or whom turned out to be waste of a roster spots (Eaton, Jenkins). This year could be Moyer, next year Raul and in a few Polanco. Thanks God we have a hell of a nucleus.
