The Phillies announced on Wednesday afternoon that they placed third baseman Michael Young on the bereavement list.
A player placed on the bereavement list must miss a minimum of three days; they can be on the list for a maximum of seven days.
The Phils recalled infield prospect Cesar Hernandez to take Young's place on the active roster. Hernandez, 23, was hitting .308 in 48 games at Triple-A Lehigh Valley as the IronPigs regular second baseman.
With Young out, the Phils could play Kevin Frandsen at third or they could shift Freddy Galvis from second to third and play Hernandez at second. Or they could do both, rotating the infiekd on a day-by-day basis, allowing both Frandsen and Hernandez playing time for however long Young is out.
