Scott Mathieson is back in the big leagues.

Mathieson was recalled today from Triple A Lehigh Valley after the Phillies placed lefthander Antonio Bastardo on the disabled list with left elbow ulnar neuritis.

In the last 4 years, Mathieson has had three elbow operations, including two Tommy John surgeries. He last pitched in the big leagues in 2006, when he started eight games for the Phillies as a 22-year-old.

Mathieson, 26, was 2-2 with 12 saves and a 2.43 ERA in 25 appearances for Lehigh Valley. Named the Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Month for May, Mathieson posted a 0.73 ERA over his first 19 appearances of the season and overall held opponents to a .194 batting average.

Bastardo, 24, made his first Opening Day roster this season and is 0-0 with a 5.11 ERA in 16 appearances for the Phillies in 2010.
