Not much to discuss Dave, it's fairly simple: Manny is LA's best hitter, Howard is our best hitter. Both pitching staffs need to do their absolute best to neutralize the other's top threat. Hopefully the Phillies can keep Manny in the yard and deliver a World Series berth to town. It is going to be an amazing ride - Go Phils!

    Give him the Bonds treatment.

I think Mitch Williams summed it up pretty well this morning on WIP: 'if I had it my way, Manny wouldn't even need to bring a bat to this series.'

Everyone keeps talking about Manny, MLB, ESPN, SI. This is the end of the road for Manny. See you next season. Goodbye and good riddance.

The key is to keep everybody batting in front of him off the bases as much as possible, specially that little pesky lead off hitter Furcal. Then you keep the ball out of the strike zone. Manny got great numbers against two of our starters (Moyer and Blanton) and they are going to pitch in LA. Good thing that Romero and Eyree won't be facing him.

Flyguy, great idea on wanting to hit Manny. If Manny gets hit, it means Utley and/or Howard are getting hit.

Manny has been hit by the Yankees. Doesn't make a difference.

El Zorro- good point, if you keep the bases clear he can't do that much damage. Walk him or let him take his hacks with no one on base, a solo shot every now and then shouldn't be enough to beat us. Flyguy and 93Phils- if we did go that route and their pitchers threw at both our hitters that would get them thrown out, which could benefit us in one game. Not a great long term strategy though, I believe the ump could start throwing guys out the first time they hit someone if he thinks its intentional.

The 4 games in LA everyone who pitched to Manny got hurt with the exception of Myers, who went right after him then set him up for the inside pitch on the hands. Pitching him low and inside is a big mistake, as is low and away, when he is looking for it, he is just too good. There are several other players on this team who can hurt you bad if you show them the ball. I think the secret is to go after them and get 2 strikes, work off that, but don't take to long about it. We have the offense to beat them with or without Howards bat. We will need to use all the skills to win and if we play conservative it could be ugly. Taking the extra base, take it the other way, drag bunt, hit and run, & stealing as often as we can will take them off their game and give us the series. If I was Utley or Howard I’d spend some time working on inside outing the ball to defeat the shift and in Utley’s case a well placed swinging bunt down third base with the shift on is worth 10 flyball outs to the warning track.
