Madson kicks chair, breaks toe

UPDATED: Madson said that he kicked a metal chair in the tunnel after leaving Wednesday's game in San Francisco. He said he is "frustrated" and "embarrassed" to have let the team down.

Madson allowed a run on two hits and a walk in blowing the save in what became a 7-6 Phillies win.

Madson said he was not sure of the timetable for his return, but assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said he expected Madson would be sidelined longer than the 15 days. The Phillies intend to send him on a rehab assignment and they want to make sure he is 100 percent so he does not hurt his arm.

Meanwhile, Brad Lidge walks into this development and said he is ready to close, if needed. Lidge is being activated from the DL for the first time this season.

EARLIER:

The shuffling in the Phillies' bullpen continues.

On the day the Phillies will activate Brad Lidge for the first time this season, the team placed Ryan Madson on the disabled list with a broken right big toe.

Madson suffered the injury after his appearance in Wednesday's game against San Francisco.

Madson is 1-0 with four saves but a 7.00 earned run average in nine games this season.

The Phillies recalled lefthander Antonio Bastardo from Triple A Lehigh Valley. Bastardo was to be sent down to make room for Lidge.

He needs a rest. LONEWOLF: Can you not think of anything more original than "Mr. Softie" Hamels? We all saw you call Donovan "McSoftie" hundreds of times, you lame brain.

Jim it's ok Bastardo can be sent down and called up as many times as they want this year. They get 3 years to do that before he has to be placed on waivers. I can't wait to hear or read what this idiot did, if anything.

gho matt, it's the same thing over and over and over again with him. He has nothing better to do and I love how he assumes the role of the what the fans are and what they want. Meanwhile he has no clue and every stat he throws out is wrong. How on earth anybody, anybody that knows anything about the game of baseball can say anything bad against Halladay is beyond me. I guess it's wrong to want to win. Based on your logic lonewolf, that would make your boy Eli Manning a frontrunner because he did not want to play for an organization that was not successful. But please tell me how in your eyes Halladay is a frontrunner? Still waiting to hear this logic?

He should be frustrated and embarrassed. I could have done better. This guy has been given millions of dollars and loads of opportunity which he keeps squandering. Focus, meathead and throw 3 good pitches (not down the middle of the plate)once you are allowed to walk on your foot again, 2-run.......

we were right in our thinking. he kicked a chair.. his pay should go to charity for the time he misses. and when he does come back. its as a 6th inning pitcher.

Speaking of the DL...Where is Rollins? I have strained a calf muscle before and it does not take this long to heal. And, i can assure you, JoRoll is in much better shape than i am. He should have been able to play last Wednesday.
