Madson kicks chair, breaks toe

POSTED: Friday, April 30, 2010, 2:36 PM

UPDATED: Madson said that he kicked a metal chair in the tunnel after leaving Wednesday's game in San Francisco. He said he is "frustrated" and "embarrassed" to have let the team down.

Madson allowed a run on two hits and a walk in blowing the save in what became a 7-6 Phillies win.

Madson said he was not sure of the timetable for his return, but assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said he expected Madson would be sidelined longer than the 15 days. The Phillies intend to send him on a rehab assignment and they want to make sure he is 100 percent so he does not hurt his arm.

Meanwhile, Brad Lidge walks into this development and said he is ready to close, if needed. Lidge is being activated from the DL for the first time this season.

EARLIER:

The shuffling in the Phillies' bullpen continues.

On the day the Phillies will activate Brad Lidge for the first time this season, the team placed Ryan Madson on the disabled list with a broken right big toe.

Madson suffered the injury after his appearance in Wednesday's game against San Francisco.

Madson is 1-0 with four saves but a 7.00 earned run average in nine games this season.

The Phillies recalled lefthander Antonio Bastardo from Triple A Lehigh Valley. Bastardo was to be sent down to make room for Lidge.

He kicked a chair? I'm not so sure it wasn't a flaming paper bag left on his front steps, because Madson stinks...

Fate is what produces championships and dooms other seasons. Titles are rare and happen when the stars align. Athletes should thank the stars and not beat their chests so hard when they win.

He was probably trying to kick Halladay for giving him bad advice and broke his toe on Roy "FrontRunner" Halladay's hard head. Halladay is trouble in the locker room and doesn't command the respect like a Kevin Kolb does in his locker room. Taking advice from McNabb and Halladay is a setup for failure.

Another survivable injury. If all of these guys currently on the DL return to their career norms they will benefit from the rest they are currently getting. We just need to avoid these injuries in September and October.

Don't blame lonewolf, by the way. ExpressScripts didn't send him his Premarin on time and he ran out.

Madson opened almost as much he closed so far. But he still is crticial to the team's success. Lidge better be ready to go.
