Madson kicks chair, breaks toe

POSTED: Friday, April 30, 2010, 2:36 PM

UPDATED: Madson said that he kicked a metal chair in the tunnel after leaving Wednesday's game in San Francisco. He said he is "frustrated" and "embarrassed" to have let the team down.

Madson allowed a run on two hits and a walk in blowing the save in what became a 7-6 Phillies win.

Madson said he was not sure of the timetable for his return, but assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said he expected Madson would be sidelined longer than the 15 days. The Phillies intend to send him on a rehab assignment and they want to make sure he is 100 percent so he does not hurt his arm.

Meanwhile, Brad Lidge walks into this development and said he is ready to close, if needed. Lidge is being activated from the DL for the first time this season.

EARLIER:

The shuffling in the Phillies' bullpen continues.

On the day the Phillies will activate Brad Lidge for the first time this season, the team placed Ryan Madson on the disabled list with a broken right big toe.

Madson suffered the injury after his appearance in Wednesday's game against San Francisco.

Madson is 1-0 with four saves but a 7.00 earned run average in nine games this season.

The Phillies recalled lefthander Antonio Bastardo from Triple A Lehigh Valley. Bastardo was to be sent down to make room for Lidge.

Did he blow his stack after blowing the save? Kick the shower wall or something?

Glad Bastardo is back up. The real future closer of this team.

Lonewolf, please explain your desire for Halladay to get hurt and why he is a frontrunner? This should be good!

I wouldn't shock me if this was move to keep this kid Herndon. Alot of teams come up with phantom injuries to keep players. But it's Madson so I don't think it's a phantom injury. I like to know how this idiot broke a toe.

he obviously pulled an oliver perez and kicked something here...either that or ryan howard was still getting used to walking around with that big wallet and stepped on his toe...

wait a second...so the phils need to clear a roster spot for lidge..madson probably breaks his toe after the game but is embarrassed and doesnt tell anyone until after they make the move to send down bastardo, so they just wasted one of bastardo's options for nothing? if that is true, that is doubly lame on madsons part
