MRI reveals mild strain for Rollins
David Murphy, Daily News Staff Writer
An MRI on Jimmy Rollins' sore right hamstring revealed a mild strain, the Phillies said.
A timetable for his return is still unclear. Rollins, who suffered the injury while running out a double in the third inning of a 10-6 win over the Marlins on Wednesday, was scheduled to fly to Florida tonight and re-join the team tomorrow.
Manager Charlie Manuel said the switch-hitting short stop will likely be available to pinch-hit from the left side of the plate, since the hamstring would be on his front leg in that situation.
Beyond that, though, Manuel would not estimate when Rollins will be back to full health, other than to say it likely would not be during this three-game series against the Marlins. The 31-year-old missed about two months with a calf strain earlier in the season, and later battled a bruised foot. In 82 games, he is hitting what would be a career-low .245, although he was 5-for-9 in the three games before his injury (all of which he spent batting outside of his usual spot atop the order).
"It’s going to be day-to-day according to what they say,” Manuel said.
whew - no tear . . . but how does he keep from more pulls until the offseason? rollins at 80% is still an essential part of this team if they're going to be playing for it all. cowpoke- Let him sit for two weeks. Valdez has been fine. We want Jimmy as close to 100% as possible for the playoff run.
Valdez has been outstanding defensively all season. Let Jimmy rest until he is 100% Apache9

Not bad really. The way Jimmy has been hitting, it is almost a wash considering that Valdez's defense is almost as good. Don't get me wrong. We need a healthy Jimmy to make the playoffs and go deep. MDefl- His wheels are falling off. Don't re-sign him at the end of his current deal.

Sorry but I can't stand Valdez hit into 1 more double play. But then again I'm no Rollins fanboy. It's a disgrace for a lead off man to have as low as an OBP as he does. Didn't he every hear of batting practice? tsdguy
thank God. Get well J-Roll Bob65S
Valdez is doing a great job as he has all season. rolenfan- we absolutely cannot win it without him. he's still the best fielding SS in baseball and loves playing in big games. valdez has been good, but he has never played in the playoffs. we need jimmy.
this guy takes longer to come back from even mild strains than any player I've ever seen. That said, I don't want him to rush back unless Charlie promises to continue to bet him 5th or 6th, and not lead-off. Jimmy approaches his at-bats lower in the order differently...or maybe it's just that our expectations for him hitting #5 or #6 are different, so his low average and occasional power doesn't offend us as much. advantasux
Jimmy can play right away. If they plan on keeping him in the five hole, he doesn't need speed as much. Scorekeeper
Valdez is a pleasure to watch in the field. He's like Pedro Feliz without the hitting. smel4727
