*Righthander Brett Myers will start the first game of the Phillies' day/night doubleheader against the Nationals Saturday. The Phillies have yet to select a starter for the nightcap. Young lefthander J.A. Happ, a projected starter who is currently serving in long relief, is the top candidate. But if the Phillies are forced to use Happ between tonight and Saturday, they will call somebody up from their minor league system. One candidate is righthander Kyle Kendrick, who spent 2008 and the second half of 2007 in the team's rotation. Kendrick is 2-2 with a 3.75 ERA in seven starts at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Manager Charlie Manuel said that he will not hesitate to use Happ in relief if the situation arises, even if it jeopardizes a Saturday start.
"We just have to wait and see what happens in these next couple days," Manuel said. "If we're in a place where we're trying to win a game, we're going to try to win that game."

*One day later, the topic of conversation at Citizens Bank Park was still Jayson Werth's steal of home in a 5-3 win over the Dodgers, one of a team-record four steals he had on the night. Manuel gave a lot of credit to first base coach Davey Lopes, who stole 557 bases during a 16-year major league career and is in charge of the Phillies running game.
"Basically, we run when Davey gives indications or signs or kind of tells guys when to go," Manuel said. "If I don't want them to run, I can stop them. But that's the only (role) I play. . .I think it's very important that when I turned the baserunning over to him, I kind of committed to him. I not only trust him, but I believe he has shown me how good he can be. He's that good. We're very fortunate to thave a guy like that."

*For the second straight night, struggling short stop Jimmy Rollins batted fifth, four spots lower than his normal leadoff position. Rollins, who is hitting .198 with a .239 on base percentage, went 1-for-3 with an RBI last night while batting fifth. The Phillies beat the Dodgers 5-3
