Lee looks set to join Yanks

POSTED: Friday, July 9, 2010, 11:52 AM

Several media outlets have reported that the Phillies turned down an offer from the Yankees for Cliff Lee over the offseason. Now, it looks like the Bombers will get their man anyway.

The Mariners and Yankees are on the verge of a deal that would see the erstwhile Phillies ace join forces with the team he dominated in the offseason, ESPN.com is reporting.

One of the prospect reportedly on the move is highly-regarded catcher Jesus Montero. FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, meanwhile, is reporting that the Phillies are exploring trade offers for right fielder Jayson Werth.

The Phillies continue to look for help for both their bullpen and rotation.

Now's when Reuben needs to make his mark. Play both ends against the middle between the Yankees, Sox and Rays and get as much for Werth now as he can. Send Werth and Castro to the Rays for Zobrist and Wade Davis!

Better than the National League I suppose. If they can't sign Werth might as well trade him, get something for him and bring Dom Brown up to see what he can do. I'd platoon him with Francisco.

If the yankees offered that catcher to us over the summer and rubes turned him down for the stiffs we got from seattle, then he's truly a bonehead. I agree with joecatz and drive the market up for werth if you're going to trade him. Personally I'd rather see victorino go and they sign werth, but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.

In the words of Nancy Kerrigan..."why"? Why did we get rid of Lee in the first place? We could have kept him for this year...let him enjoy a full year of being loved by Philly fans...he seemed to like it here....now look at us. Yes, Ruben needs to be grilled.

I said this many months ago . . . If phillies had traded Werth / for ' prospects ' . . . in the offseason . . because we're going to lose Werth anyway and kept Cliff Lee and used werth's money to resign Lee . . remember he WANTED to stay here . . . phillies would be way . .way . . way . . better off

That's just great. Not to sound too negative but trading this guy was the stupidest thing I think I've ever seen this team do. And now he'll probably lead the Yankees to another title. Sweet revenge for Cliff Lee but totally sucks for Phils fans, especially watching the current state of this team's pitching.

Crawford is much more likely to be available, but Evan Longoria in red pinstripes would sure look good.

I was hoping for the Mets, so Cliff can put the final nail in the coffin!

Amaro is an idiot. We should NEVER have traded Lee. If he goes to Yankees they are going to win it all again. ARGH!
