Late start times in Denver

POSTED: Thursday, October 8, 2009, 10:47 PM

Major League Baseball announced the starting times for the remaining games of the Phillies-Rockies series.

The Phillies already know that first pitch tomorrow will be 9:37 p.m. EDT. Sunday’s Game 4 will be even later: 10:07 p.m.

If Game 5 is necessary back at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday, it will start at 6:07 p.m. or, if it’s the only game, 8:07 p.m.

You got it riight Andrew...it's all about ratings and money. If it were Boston, NY, or L.A. ANY SPORT...ANY GAME..then the time would fit for prime time. When the "money " cities are not involved...everyone else gets the shaft. It's reality. So get used to it. Gauranteed....networks will show and more people will be watching the Boston Redsox highlights than the Phils game....but I'll be laughing....hahaha!!! So sorry Papelbon!! Go Angels!!!!

I don't think the networks 'hate' the Phillies, they just don't respect us. It would be a good story for them for the upstart Rockies to defeat the Phils (just like it would have been last year if the Rays had won). They love the Angels and the Dodgers because they are from the largest city on the west coast. They love the Red Sox because of the "nation". That they love the Yankees for obvious reasons and the Twins are a small market hungry team (although the networks wouldn't want them to beat the yankees). The Phils never will get the same respect UNLESS they repeat as champions. You have to remember that inside baseball, the Phils are still preceived as losers for all they terrible teams they've had over the years plus our fans are thought of as mean and nasty. Don't get me wrong, I've been a fan of this team for over 40 years. I want them to win! The Phils need to earn respect and nothing would make me happier if the Phils stuck it to the networks by screwing with their plans and winning it all again. GO PHILS!!!!!!

Just in case you would like to pass your opinion along to someone who actually could (but won't) do something about it, Bud Selig's Office number is: (212) 931-7800. Wouldn't it be great to make their lives miserable with a few thousand calls?

[Wally 24 Wow a lot of offensive comments today. *** This is a joke on us created by Ted Turner and it is meant to remove the viewing audience and force the world champions into the worst starting times possible. I would say Ted should be ashamed of himself but he probably knows no shame.] Wally, Hello! It's 2009. Ted Turner no longer controls TBS. Again, try to keep up!

[andrewfrombrooklyn Grow up people; it's about ratings. ...... Man up.] EXACTLY! TBS (and by extension, MLB, because TBS is signing their checks) doesn't care about the Phillies. In fact, they are probably hoping the Phillies are eliminated because that enables the "upstarts knock off the champions" feel-good stories. ... There are many things to rip Selig for, but allowing TV to dictate the starting times (although distasteful) is just a fact of life these days. (You might as well blame Curt Flood, Catfish Hunter, Charlie Finley, and Marvin Miller!)

MLB efffs it up again! That is why the season is too long and the playoff games should be in september, NOT OCTOBER!. Baseball is a WARM WEATHER sport! 90% of the games are played in warm weather and then the most important games, PLAYOFFS, are played in cold weather like New York, Colorado, Philly and Boston. Then they start some game at 10:00? WTF? Have both night games atart at 8 and regoinalize them. If one game sucks they can switch to the other one. MLB will never learn.

asdfjk,,,,, No a 10 PM start will not get me to want to blow Joe Buck Andrew from Bklyn - what are you doing on a Phillies web site imparting your pearls of wisdom ???...the Mets sucked (see suggestion about Joe Buck above to solve this problem) so get a life and restrict yourself to the NY Post !

school or no school this is an outrage. Yeah its bad for the fans but we'll all stay up and watch. The real problem is the players bodies are also tuned to EST. Youre basically making them play a game at midnight in the snow. I think this makes game 3 a MUST WIN.

who still gets off for Columbus day? MLB baseball hypes up only two or three teams and then wonders why ratings go off a cliff when the teams they barely mention keep advancing. Make a big star out of Ryan Howard, as he deserves, and people might tune into wathc him rather than some nonsense about Mannywood or Big Papi or whomever else would be over the hill without chemical enhancement

There may be more people living in the L.A. metro area, but they are not true baseball fans. I know firsthand from years of living there. This is just going from bad to worse. Selig needs to go. But then, that's nothing new. WFC!!!!! Go Phillies!

People, if you check out the weather forecast for Denver.. Saturday looks like a day where it will not be possible to play. High of 32. Low of 25 with snow and ice.. Sunday not much better either with another chance of snow and temps in the high 20's at night.. Hope they wait till clear weather to play out there which will be Mon and Tues.

Fortunately, for some, including myself, it's not a work night because of Columbus Day. First time during my working years that I get to take advantage of that.

All games should be played after complete darkness falls. Players should not have to try to hit a 97-mph fastball hidden in late-afternoon shadows. Kids? Just as we did decades ago, they'll listen to a radio under the covers.

I'm surprised that TBS hasn't brought back Ernie Johnson Sr. and Pete Van Wieren for their telecasts. Just awful. What makes them think that we want to listen to homer Braves announcers on national games?

Grow up people; it's about ratings. There are more people in aggregate living in L.A. and Boston and than in Denver and Philadelphia; the Phillies were part of the World Series last year and had THE LOWEST RATINGS IN MLB HISTORY. It happens. It stinks, but it happens. Man up.

How is it that the fans of the defending world champions are treated with such incredible disrespect?
