What's this? A piece of news not relating to Pedro Martinez?

Phillies prospect Jason Knapp, a second round pick last season who is one of the hottest prospects in the Phillies system, was placed on the seven-day disabled list with shoulder fatigue. The righty, who turns 19 later next month, is 2-7 with a 4.01 ERA at Class A Lakewood, but has struck out 111 and walked just 39 in 85 1/3 innings. He last pitched on July 11, when he allowed six earned runs in just 2/3rds of an inning, prompting the club to shut him down.

Knapp is eligible to return this weekend, but will likely miss at least another week. The condition is not considered to be serious, but it is newsworthy considering the fact that the Phillies are hoping to make a play for Blue Jays righthander Roy Halladay. Toronto assistant general manager Tony LaCava has been scouting in Lakewood for the past week, while the Blue Jays have had scouts sprinkled throughout the Phillies' minor league system.

Knapp visited Phillies team doctor Michael Ciccotti in Philadelphia yesterday -- wonder if it was before or after the Martinez physical? -- and was given a "clean bill of health," according to assistant general manager Chuck Lamar.

Blueclaws catcher Travis D'Arnaud is also a rising prospect, although he has struggled at the plate at times this season.

Knapp, whose fastball reached into the upper 90's, is one of the three players speculated to be "untouchable" in any trade, although general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. has not said publicly whether Knapp falls into that designation.

Lakewood's Anthony Gose put on a clinic for the Blue Jays scouts earlier today. He stole his minor league leading 49th base, made a diving catch in centerfield and later in the same inning threw out a runner at the plate. And to end it he drove in the winning run with a base hit in the bottom of the 9th for a 4-3 come from behind win.

Stash him on the DL, Ruben. He should definitely be one of our untouchables.I imagine the Jays probably have interest in D'Arnaud and/or Gose.PS Knapp is a righty. =)

Good thing they shut Knapp down for a while. Some people think the health problems Drabek had after being drafted was becasue he pitched way too much during his high school days. I read the he was in a bunch of All Star teams and pitched since february to late october. He also played SS. Some of these kids are also in baseball academies during the winter.

A single-A pitcher with a 2-7 record goes on the DL, and THIS is newsworthy? Murphy's running out of material!

Pay attention, jman - it;s notable because Knapp's name is being floated in possible trade scenarios for Halladay.

I'll never understand the people who read these blogs just so they can jump in and say they're not worth reading.

perfectcrime, there is no need to "stash" Knapp on the DL. He's not even on the 40-man roster yet. He was just drafted last year. At this point, the Phils control him regardless. For all intents and purposes, he is already untouchable, unless the Phils make him available in a trade.

good move, let his arm rest a bit..almost every good high school pitcher gets way overused and it catches up with them in the next two years..good move to be cautious here.

Murph - great you wrote a fine short article and junked all the excess. I disagree with jman - this is definitely newsworthy as far as a possible trade for Halladay. Some of us like to hear about the prospects .. first time the Phillies seem to have a lot of prospects. Their farm system has never been higher than 20 in 50 years.

I don't know anything about knapp, but i don't think any 18-year-old who's in low-single A should be untradeable. If he's the key or final piece for halladay, then do it. PhightinPhan- you are exactly right there's like 3 of them on every blog and each blog post.

JPK, Get a clue. Where is it said that Knapp is being floated in a trade scenario? In David Murphy's mind? YOU SHOULD READ THIS AGAIN! He later states that Amaro has not said WHO these "prospects" are. So, YOU are basing your "factual" ramblings on some blogger's guesstimates. If you want to pay attention to the ramblings of "journalists" , be my guest. But don't expect rational people to play along!
