Kendrick: I'll be back

POSTED: Monday, March 23, 2009, 2:35 PM

A resolute Kyle Kendrick vowed this afternoon that he would be back in the big leagues sooner rather than later. Three times in the first minute of his conversation with reporters in the Phillies clubhouse he said the words, "I'll be back." Though Kendrick admitted he was upset when first informed that he had been optioned to the minors, he later realized the move was for the better.

Kendrick was running a distant third in the competiton for the fifth starter's spot as J.A. Happ and Chan Ho Park put together impressive springs.

"At first, I'm not going to lie, it was surprising," he said. "But at the same time, those guys have been pitching good and they had to make a move, so like I said, I'm going to go work on what I ened to work on, get better and I'll be back.

"I didn't show my offspeed stuff early enough and it was a little erratic at times. It just needs to get better and I know I need to get better.. .I'm going to go down there with a clear mind and get better, and I'll be back."

He works hard and wants to be a good pitcher for this team but unfortunately I don't think he has the talent to be a consistent starter in the majors

Get older, work harder, and develop some out pitches, and the experience this kid has already gotten under his belt will make him a nice mid-tier starter, even if it's not for the Phils.

He's very young so its not the end of the world. He will love Allentown. Its Toledo without the glitter.

lets see if the Brett Myers pitching adjustment can work for Kendrick. I hope so. It is always better to have more bullets.

Larry Bowa never cared for Kendrick - said he was a crybaby. Upon that analysis, I say "good riddance" Kendrick.

Wow...kind of amazing we have more than our share of quality starters that a guy with his big league record gets sent down! It was obvious he was the odd man out but let's hope he rebounds as he came through for us when we needed him last two years.

He got his ring. It's all downhill from here. He is a career journeyman righthanded pitcher. He is a AAA caliber pitcher.

Too bad that trade to the Japanese Baseball League 2 years ago was only a goof...maybe he would do better over there!

"Three times in the first minute of his conversation with reporters in the Phillies clubhouse he said the words, 'I'll be back.'" ... Good Lord, I sure hope not. One-pitch pitchers don't even work in a ML bullpen, much less a starting rotation.

He can't get lefties out and that was his demise.

He should have been in Allentown all last season. He might be ready now.

I hope we don't see him again, mainly because that means we are having serious problems with our pitching staff if we have to dip into the minors. I also don't think he'll ever be anything more than he is right now.
