Jayson Werth leaves game with injury to same wrist that nearly cost him his career
David Murphy, Daily News Staff Writer
It's one of those replays you don't want to watch, but that will be replayed over and over again. Jayson Werth charging a sinking line drive in the fifth inning, then grimacing in pain as he slides and rolls over his gloved left wrist.
The injury was particularly stomach-churning for anybody who is aware of the trajectory of the former Phillies right fielder's career. Back in 2005, an A.J. Burnett pitch broke the same wrist that Werth injured last night, leading to a two-year ordeal that resulted in two surgeries and at one point had Werth convinced that he would never again play major league baseball.
Thus far, there has been no announcement about the nature of Werth's injury. He walked off the field with a tight grip on his left forearm.
- Werth helped us win a World Series so I wish him the best.
I always hate to see a player hurt. Werth was a key part of our success. Never thought he was a superstar-but given my druthers-having him come to the plate with runners on base beats some of the alternatives we have seen this year.
The Nationals overpaid him-but in many ways he was in the right place at the right time. I also can not fault him for talking up his new team.
Despite his poor year last year-his signing was big for Washington-on a much less grand scale-his signing is Washington's version of our signing of Thome. Smoothellc
Tough injury for Werth. Dont share tasteless remarks of other fans. No big surprise. As Werth is now older could be more difficult coming back from this. Don w
Comment removed.- broken wrist..confirmed on cnnsi today. its a shame...
He will have to count his cash one handed. Tough break NewMick314
...what did he say?...ingrates... flank steak
Nobody works the count better than Jayson Werth. His sister is a star on our Huskers volleyball team. I wish him well and a speedy recovery. I thought the Nats way over paid, but that's Scott Boras. All in all the Phils upgraded in RF since Jayson. If we can upgrade in several other positions we'll have a better team. I feel worse for John Mayberry, Jr. and he isn't hurt. PhilsfaninNebraska

Werth was a big part of the Phillies resurgence during his time here. Sorry to see it happen. Wish him luck. Dragon13
This comment has been deleted. sjtom- Really classy. (Sarcasm off) And an excellent example why some "phans" cost your city and your sports teams respect they otherwise would have from those of us who follow and cheer for other teams. (Sarcasm on) Next somebody's going to think it was a good thing to deliberately throw a pitch at one of the Nationals. Oh, wait...

It's a shame for him. He plays hard and thanks to the Phillies giving him a second chance, he did some great things in Philly. AvoidSundanceVacations
Sorry J-Dub. Best of luck. zubzub
He doesn't comb his hair. Can't you tell?

He won't be able to comb his hair. Disco Dave
Saw the game and it didn't look good. Same wrist he had issues with back in his Dodger days that cost him the entire 2006 season. Not a Jayson Werth fan any longer since his comments after signing with D.C., but as a baseball fan, I hate to see ANY player get injured. Hoping its not as serious as it looked, and if so, hoping for a full recovery. Still helped us get a ring in 2008. drhoffman

Did he injure it trying to lift his wallet? F. Harry Stowe
Horrible contract, probably wouldn't even miss him if Morse and Zimmerman weren't hurt. lazyboy
looked pretty bad. Wish him the best. Jordan Zimmerman and Bryce Harper, not so much PhillyfaninMD

Looks like he broke a bone in his forearm. If so, he should be back in 8-10 weeks. bobcitydoc
He's a gnat, but still wish him the best... Sam Crow
