It's official: Lee a Phillie

POSTED: Wednesday, December 15, 2010, 12:09 PM

It's official: Cliff Lee is a member of the Phillies.

The Phillies announced that Lee has signed a  five-year, $120 million contract with the Phillies. The deal has a vesting option for 2016 and includes an awards package.

Lee and general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. will meet the media at 3 p.m.

Lee will wear No. 33.

Here is more from the Phillies press release:

Lee, 32, went 12-9 with a 3.18 ERA in 28 combined starts last season between the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers. He tied for the American League lead with seven complete games and led all major league pitchers in fewest walks per 9.0 innings pitched (0.76; Roy Halladay was second at 1.08). Despite not making his first start until April 30, the 2010 season marked the fifth time in his career that Lee surpassed 200.0 innings. In his nine losses, he received 13 total runs of support (1.4 runs/game).

A two-time AL All-Star (2008 & 2010), Lee was the 2008 AL Cy Young Award winner, when he went 22-3 with a 2.54 ERA and finished fourth in voting in 2005 (18-5, 3.79 ERA). Over the last three seasons (2008-10), Lee has the second-most complete games (17) among all major league pitchers, trailing only Halladay (27).

Lee has pitched in the last two World Series, winning a pennant in both leagues with the Phillies and Rangers. For his career, he is 7-2 with a 2.13 ERA and three complete games in 10 postseason starts with 80 strikeouts in 76.0 innings (9.5 SO/9.0 IP).

A fourth-round selection by the Montreal Expos in the 2000 draft, Lee is 102-61 (.626) in his major league career with a 3.85 ERA in 222 games (218 starts) for the Cleveland Indians (2002-09), Phillies (2009), Mariners (2010) and Rangers (2010).

Awesome! I'd think Blanton because the 5th starter (unless they can trade him) and Kendrick hits the BP

time for the catch phrases we all love....
    The Four Horseman?
    Five Fingered Death Punch?
R2C2? (I like that one Bink)

I like Joe but can't see both him or KK on the roster unless one becomes a long reliever

Wouldnt be surprised if Joey Blanton is traded. Im willing to bet that Vance Worley will be the 5th starter.

Someone please kill R2C2, it is soooo terribly terrible. I'm in for The Four Horsemen, but to name that rotation after a geeky character from a geeky movie is simply embarrassing. Pass the word to the media (you're killing our vibe).

R2C2 terrible? Star Wars tie in? Come on, it's a natural! Can the corny stuff with the Ph's in front or Four This and Four that. Great to have this rotation if they don't lead the league in 1-0 losses.

Murph, I really have nothing to add here because I'm just still in utter shock. Reuben I'm sorry for every doubting you. We are finally the 'hunters' and not 'the hunted'. I have phaith you'll get a rightfielder. Anyone know who'll be available (mainly a half year on contract remaining type of player)around the all-star break?

This one is too easy folks:

    Phree Phour All
    Free 4 All
F4A (Why do we even consider such things? I know, the general public is illiterate)
    Four for All
    44A
    Phour for All

You get the idea. After watch 100 loss teams, over 10,000 loses historically, being the laughing stock of everyone in the nation as the losers of the nation, we finally hav something good. Good leadeship, great individuals and better fans than New York. Except for fans playing Barfing for Black-Eyes. Just tazing.

Murph, will you tell Reuben thank you for all of us. I loved Cliff Lee and was shocked when he was traded. Getting Oswalt helped, but he wasn't Lee. I'm still in disbelief. I can't wait for the press conference. Reuben knows how much we loved Lee. Tell him thanks will you?

As a slightly famous QB once said:

Everybody make mistakes in they lifetime, and RAJ made one last year.

Glad to see he was able to look past that and fix his error. Welcome back Cliffy!
