Injuries. . .plus schedules for Eaton and Benson

If the Phillies are suddenly struck by a rash of injuries in the next week, you can all thank Paul Hagen, because in today's Daily News he examines the Phillies' relatively healthy season thus far and how it has contributed to their 2.5 game lead in the National League East.

The biggest key has been avoiding pitching injuries. For awhile the Phillies were the only team in the majors to use just 12 pitchers. Rudy Seanez and Tom Gordon's are the first pitchers on the disabled list since Brad Lidge way back at the beginning of the season. Cole Hamels is on pace to set a career-high in innings, and Jamie Moyer just keeps on ticking. The rotation may not be dominant this season, but it is healthy, and that counts for a lot -- just ask the Atlanta Braves. Would you rather have Tim Hudson for 2/3rds of a season or Jamie Moyer for a whole season?

Jamie Moyer goes for 11-0 against the Marlins tonight. . .

Adam Eaton is scheduled to pitch tonight for Double A Reading against Portland.

Kris Benson is scheduled to pitch tonight for Triple A Lehigh Valley. Benson has pitched well in each of his last three starts.
