Interest in Iguchi?

The Phillies have shown interest in bringing back second baseman Tadahito Iguchi, his agent, Rocky Hall, told the Los Angeles Times. The Dodgers also have shown interest.

The 33-year-old Iguchi, who signed a 1-year, $3.85 million deal with San Diego as a free agent in the offseason, was released this week. He was hitting .231 with two homers and 24 RBI in 81 games. He spent most of June and July on the disabled list because of a separated shoulder and was hitting .125 with 21 strikeouts in 64 at-bats since his return following a minor league rehab assignment. Iguchi and pitcher Brett Tomko were released to open roster spots for second baseman Matt Antonelli and pitcher Wade LeBlanc to be called up from Triple A.

The Philies acquired Iguchi last summer from the Chicago White Sox after Chase Utley was injured and he helped the team stay afloat. The Phillies talked to Iguchi about returning this season, but as a third baseman. He instead opted to sign with the Padres and remain at second.
