Ibanez sixth -- Sixth! -- in All-Star voting

POSTED: Tuesday, May 26, 2009, 5:57 PM

Raul Ibanez leads all National League outfielders in home runs (17), RBI (43), slugging (.750), runs (38) and his fourth in batting average (.345).

But in All-Star voting, the Phillies left fielder is currently sixth.

Ibanez has little more than half as many votes as Ryan Braun, who leads all NL outfielders with roughly 1.6 million votes. Among others ranked ahead of Ibanez? Brewers outfielder Mike Cameron and suspended Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez. Apparently people in Milwaukee don't have much else to do besides vote for the All-Star game, because Corey Hart is a mere 57,000 votes behind Ibanez.

Popularity contest David, you know this. Chawle is the manager, he will be an All-Star. Not that he wouldn't be anyway. He is the best free agent signing of any time this offseason. Hard to believe at 36yrs old.

FOR VOTING: Go to MLB.COM, then look to the center of the page just under the scrolling top six stories (under the six dots) and there will be a line (in blue ink) that says; VOTE: Cast your allstar ballot. Click on that link to get to the voting page, once there you need to fill out a short form with your E-mail addy and your birthdate and provide your zipcode. You also have to type in a 5 number validation code (this is provided, just type in the appropriate box) then click on "VOTE NOW" This will take you to the American League vote sheet, make your picks for them then scroll to the bottom of that page and click on "GO TO NL BALLOT>>". Make your pics there and scroll down to bottom of page and click on "SUBMIT VOTE". You are allowed to vote up to 25 times. On the next screen you can click on "VOTE AGAIN" if you wish to do so. NOTE: The picks that you made previously will remain checked, so if you wish to keep the same picks just scroll through untill you get to "SUBMIT VOTE" again. Open MLB.COM in a new page and you can minimize it if you need to check back to these instructions. Vote Often :)

He should start leron, fans turn the game into a popularity contest. It's the biggest reason the AL has had the edge lately. Go on line and vote. Maybe the NL can win one rather than having a line up of over the hill favorites.

BTW, glad to see you've come around Dr. Heller. Not sorry Pat is gone now? Raul has been a terrific upgrade, no?

The staff at CBP does not do a good enough job of collecting all-star ballots. They give them out and never come back. There may be places to drop them off, but I have never seen one. How many of the 45k at each game fill out a ballot to have it end up in the trash?

Anyone who believes fans are smart enough to pick a worthy all star team ought to spend a few minutes reading the comments here on philly.com. That would learn 'em.

Gary VArsho is correct. Not only is voting at Milwaukee's Miller Park very organized, it is incentive based. ead this article: lb.mlb.com/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20090526&content_id=4967012&vkey=pr_mil&fext=.jsp&c_id=mil

Don't worry, if Ibanez isn't voted in as the starter then Charlie will just yank the starting left fielder (who won the popularity contest) after the first pitch (the NL are the home team I believe) and everyone will get what they deserve.

The Phillies, WIP and all the local news stations should be advising everyone that they should be going out to phillies.com and they can vote up to 25 times on who they want in the All Star game. They only need to fill the ballot out once and then hit submit, then all they have to do is select vote again, fill in the Validation Key and repeat that till it tells you that you reached your limit. The Phillies should hand out pamphlets on these procedures as you enter the ballpark. Voting ends July 2nd...so get out there and vote.

What a waste of a website this guy has. His rationale is "I said it would be funny if Manny got elected, because he's coming off a suspension." Pure genius. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4210101
