It didn't take long for Ryan Howard to justify Charlie Manuel's decision to re-insert him into the line-up tonight. Howard hit a two-run home run to center field in his first game back from a two-game stint on the bench. Howard had struck out in three pinch-hit appearances over the past two days. But he has his first home run in eight games.

Will this be the blast that gets him going?

We'll see. . .

He's back alright, 2 more K's....unless he hits 100 HRs to erase those 200 K's he's not back....

How pathetic is it that the guy hits one homerun - to break up the K record he'll probably shatter in August - and it's headline news? When he strikes out less than 40 % of the time, we can talk. Players he's not in the same league with: ARod, Pujols, Cabrera, Holliday, Vlad... now if we could just convice Ryan of that before he's on to his 4th agent. Keep holding out for that 25 mil a year, kid.

Guess what - Phillies, in APRIL, are three games over .500 and a half game out of first...ahead of the Mets...ahead of the Braves. That's the real story. Howard will figure things out and get his numbers - the fact that this team is in the position it is without his production is saying something.

The whole "getting his numbers"... how about playing consistently? Being a professional? All the greats - since everybody has already annointed RH - did it on a consistent basis. Name a "great" player, then go back and look at their career numbers. The guy hit .220 for 2 months last year, PLUS sub .200 for the month Utley was out. Again, compare RH to the players I mentioned above. I could care less if he hits 20 HRs in the month of June to "get his numbers." The season is won day-to-day.
