Howard placed on DL

POSTED: Tuesday, August 3, 2010, 5:13 PM

Ryan Howard was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a moderate left ankle sprain, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today. To take his spot on the 25-man roster, the Phillies recalled outfielder John Mayberry Jr. from Triple A Lehigh Valley.

Howard, 30, was hitting .292 with 23 home runs and a NL-leading 81 RBI in 104 games. He suffered the injury while sliding back into second base on Sunday against Washington. Howard is the 15th different Phillie to land on the disabled list this season.

Mayberry, 26, was hitting .258 (99-for-383) with 12 home runs and 54 RBI in 99 games for Lehigh Valley this season.

Get well, Ryan. If the Phillies can stay in the race over the next two weeks, we'll need your big bat to get into the playoffs.

Good thing one of the Phillies' TV sponsors is Thomas Jefferson Hospital! Maybe we can make a run after Labor Day if it isn't too late.

How can this team continue on like this? 6 of the teams starting 8 have been on the DL for an extended period of time.

Rizzotti not on 40-man roster, so someone would have to be dumped. Surprised they didn't bring up Andy Tracy from LV unless he's a non-roster player as well.

Obligatory Cliff Lee comment that he has started less games than Jamie Moyer this season, has the same number of wins as him, and has gotten hit hard in 2 of his 5 starts with Texas. So what I'm really saying is think before you mention Cliff Lee

realzeel, Charlie Gump is absolutely one of the worst tacticians out there, he absolutely under no circumstance whatsoever should win a manager of the year award. If anything, he costs this team wins on a regular basis with his decision making. I mean for Christ's sake, Lidge is still (attmepting to) close games! And you think he should win an award for this? That statement is just plain b@t $hit crazy.
