Howard arbitration: How does it look?

Looking dapper in a charcoal suit, man-of-the-hour Ryan Howard arrived at a downtown St. Petersburg hotel around 9 a.m. for his arbitration hearing with the Phillies.

"How do I look?" Howard asked a group of people who watched him and father Ron emerge from a white Escalade.

"Like a million bucks," someone responded.

Howard is hoping he looks like $10 million bucks, the asking price he and agent Casey Close submitted when the two sides exchanged arbitration figures last month. The Phillies are hoping a panel of arbitrators awards him $7 million.

Right now, the two sides are holed up in a conference room.

We took a look at Howard's situation today in the Daily News. The first baseman doesn't seem too concerned about the whole process. Bill Conlin, meanwhile, looks at how Howard can win, and how he can lose.

We aren't expected to hear a result until at least tomorrow.

Stay tuned. . .
