Scenario: The Phillies keep Lee last season and get Doc. But they don't win the world series and Lee walks. Are Phillies' fans just as mad/hurt/jilted like their 3rd grade girlfriend just left them for the popular kid in class? Probably. So what's the big deal now? Lee is gone, move on. Also, Conlin is an idiot. PhillyPhreak
Keep RO in Houston; he's got back problems, he's done nothing but whine and has said he doesn't want to be in Philly! So, know what, keep your overpaid arm in Houston! JBinPA

Thank goodness @jayhaizen is not the Phils' GM. smel4727
Roy Oswalt has been on the DL 6 times since 2003 ... 3 times for groin, 2 times for back and once for hip. Jeff Dowder
simply useless...ignorance with an attitude JoeyMax
Getting Oswalt now is definitely Amaro trying to fix a mistake. By going after Oswalt now, Amaro is practically saying to everybody, "Hey, I #$#@! up." But I'm not sure Oswalt is a good get, especially if his health reports are accurate. Plus, he seems wishy-washy: Wants to go to a playoff contender, but not to several teams such as Philly; Is presented with a trade to Philly a week ago, but still needs time to think about it. I'd rather have a player who is healthy and basically shuts up and pitches great baseball. Oh yeah, his name was Lee and Phillies already had him. MrPhillie
Mr. Conlin is simply a HOF baseball writer, but these days he reminds me of Willie Mays...wearing a Mets uniform. Sad... JoeyMax
I think Oswalt's injury problems are overblown. He is working on his 7th straight season with 30+ starts. I like Happ but this is the second time he has missed significant time with an elbow issue. Some of you people who don't want Oswalt are probably the same people who were mad they got Lee instead of Halliday last July. Remember that Hamels, Myers, Blanton and Moyer was the World Series winning rotation. The way MLB schedules the playoffs, they might not even need a 4th starter. NMPartners- The big difference with Lee and Oswalt will probably be the money. Although Oswalt is highly paid, reports are saying the Astros are going to give the Phillies about 11 million of that salary money as part of the deal. If that ends up being true (or close to true) the difference compared to re-signing Lee is significant. With Oswalt's option also apparently out of the picture (maybe not completely though) they'd be committing to 1.5 to 3 years for a guy who's probably on the downside of his career. That's not awful, particularly if they end uponly committing through 2011. Indications with Lee were that they'd have to lock him up much longer. Personally, I think very few pitchers are worth the gamble of long term big money. Someone like Halladay is an exception. Lee -- maybe, but one injury and that big contract becomes an albatross. I'd say if the Oswalt deal goes through keep Werth for a playoff run then decide on him. Then close your eyes and pray for the back end of the bullpen. s

Thank you, S, for making the only relevant point re: Oswalt vs. Lee. Oswalt = 2 months + 1 season for $12 million. (+ $2m buyout?) = $14 million Lee = $7million for 2010, at least $100 million for next 5 years. $14 million vs. $107 million. So let's please stop saying we could've had Lee for the same money. Or that we could've had Werth for the same money, because that's almost as ridiculous. Compare what that $88 million buys us over the next 4 years before you start whining about Cliff Lee again. wmichael
Phils completely stole Owsalt, thanks Ed! Rod72
