Happ to DL; Romero activated

POSTED: Thursday, April 22, 2010, 5:38 PM

If the Phillies call up a pitcher from the minors, which one should it be?
Drew Carpenter
Scott Mathieson
Joe Savery
Mike Zagurski

Lefthander J.A. Happ has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 16, with a left forearm strain,  the Phillies announced. Happ had never been on the DL in his career.

Reliever J.C. Romero has been activated from the disabled list.

Happ, 27, is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA (10.1 IP) in two starts so far this season. He went 12-4, 2.93 ERA for the Phillies in 2009.

Romero was originally placed on the DL on April 3 (retroactive to March 26) after having surgery on his left elbow in the offseason. He made five rehab appearances, three with single-A Clearwater and two with triple-A Lehigh Valley, going 0-1 with a 1.69 ERA (1 ER, 5.1 IP).

Righthander Nelson Figueroa will start in place of Happ for the Phillies on Saturday against the Diamondbacks.

More to come ...

As long as these injuries are happening in April, they should be fine.

Rich Dubee, thw worst pitching coach in baseball, now has had every member of the staff on the DL. I hope Gomer fires Dubee and hires his best buddy, Dick Pole as pitching coach. It's a good thing Halalday's mechanics are Dubee proof!

Hiding behind my Keyboard-Surely, you see a pattern here, don't you? Dubee has the reverse midas touch....Every single pitcher on the staff the last 1 and 1 month has been on the DL because of bad mechanics, work habits, etc.

Actually, dr., rubee taught Halliday a better way to throw his slider. Worked well last night.

I totally agree with mjb, this is exactly the time of the season to get hit with the injury bug. In August we'll be healthy (hopefully), and everyone else in the league will be suffering injuries then. Get the injuries out of the way now. It doesn't bother me, they'll be fine.

"...has had every member of the staff on the DL" "Every single pitcher on the staff the last 1 and 1 month has been on the DL" Huh, odd. I missed Roy Halladay going on the DL...

Mike 1- Halladay is the best pitcher in baseball. You really think he is listening to Dubee the Donkey? Were you dropped on your head as a youngster?

Zherhog-Next time read before you wrongly criticize. I said that "Halladay is Dubee proof." Did you flunk out of community college or trade school?

Injuries are going to happen, it's a long season and the players who are healthy and on the field need to keep their heads up and focus on the on-field concerns, not elsewhere. Happ can get some rest, and instead of pitching with it or making it worse, he should be able to come back. Hopefully Joey Bulldog comes back to what we have seen and come to expect, and Kendrick keeps settling down.

Stan the Man- Cliff Lee, Hamels, Happ, Moyer, Durbin, Kendrick, Lidge, Romero,Condrey, Chan Ho Park, Bastardo, and MAdsen have all been on the DL either last season or in the first month of this season. What does that tell you?

Dr. Michael, I can guarantee the only thing you know about mechanics is when it's time to take your car in for an oil change.

No, I am concerned about this lousy bullpen we have. Haven't seen one pitcher that is any good out there. Amaro you need an overhall with this staff. Wake up and get something done. Cliff Lee would be a nice addition. Oh you let him go didn't you.

Maybe if the "name we shall not speak" wasnt on the DL he would be useful but oh wait he's not on the freakin team anymore. Let it go already. This team just needs to survive until they get healthy. Unlike the lowly Muts of last year who whined all year about how injuries killed their season the phils are still in first. Survive and the calvery will come. Let's go Phils!!
