Lefthander J.A. Happ will be on the Phillies' playoff roster for the National League Division Series against Milwaukee.

Happ confirmed that he was told a few days ago. He will serve in a long relief role.

Speedy outfielder Greg Golson is not on the playoff roster. He does not have a locker in the Phillies' clubhouse.

The deadline to finalize the rosters for the series is Wednesday at 10 a.m. Game 1 begins at 3 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park.

More to come.

Geez, the Mets and Yanks spend every year and they are not in. Maybe Seattle should be our model - spend over 100 million and not get in. It's a shame that the Marlins did not make it - then the last two teams in MLB payroll (Them + Rays) could play in the WS and we would not have to hear the cheap stuff over and over - it's not how much you spend but who you spend it on. Otherwise, you could just look at payrolls each year and pick the winners.

I'd feel better about Taguchi if he'd played in more than FOUR games in the month of September (to Golson's six). Taguchi played in one of the final eight regular season games. Golson played in four of the final eight. Seems like toward the end of the season, Golson took Taguchi's place as a pinch runner. Given that So is the last batter on the bench (aside from pitchers), why switch things back now?

scorpio27 - I read it on either ESPN or Fox Sports Rumors about Uggla.

i don't think so varsh, if i was the marlins and was building a team around one guy....it would be uggla.

Pitching and defense wins championships.

The Marlins won't be a problem either, they will continue to get rid of talent. Look for Uggla to be gone this off season, among others.

Hey CheapPhillies, the Mets were automatic when they got Pedro and Delgado, then they were going to be automatic when they got Santana. Looks like the only thing automatic about them is a September swoon.

nice CheapPhillies - can't even enjoy the fact that we have home series adv in the playoffs!!! Rollins/Howard/Hamels/Utley/Lidge/Worth/Victorino are over the hill next year?

CheapPhillies, you just keep on repeating that over and over, because both the Mets and the Marlins have the past two years. And what team has made it to the NL East Title both years..........? The game is won on the field, not in the New York Post.

Next year the Marlins will be better due to youth, the Mets due to what they will spend on free agents, so this is the last hurrah for the Phils. Farmteams matter as much a major league .. enjoy the wonderful Citizens Park while you can

I with you, phairmount. Golson is fast, that's it. Tacuchi has good speed and is a very SMART baserunner. Those instincts will go a long way in the playoffs. I'm not so worried about Myers. I think pitching on 3 days rest vs these Brewers screwed him up a little, but now that he's on a normal schedule I expect a good performance.

I'm glad they kept Happ on the roster. Pitching is the name of the game. Happ in my opinion will get the job done if needed. As for Sabatthia, if he was 20-0 and every game he threw a no hitter, then I would say they made a mistake, but the guy IS GOOD, but every pitcher can be beaten.

I agree with Vasrho. After that last game his stock came crashing faster than Wall Street. We had chance to see him play for the first time and he looked like he is a good two years away from the majors.

brewers can't hit lefties so it makes sense to take as many as they can

I couldn't agree with you more G Varsho, Taguchi (as apposed to Golson) has postseason experience, yeah, he's had an awful year, but p.s. experience is a whole different thing come October.

Seanez is the last guy out then. Taguchi and Condrey are in.

I think it's funny that it's almost October and so many Phillies fans (and occasionally sportswriters) can't distinguish between the names "Iguchi" and "Taguchi." For those who aren't clear, IF Tad Iguchi and OF So Taguchi are two different people.

el zorro's right on the myers worries. id say you gotta leave jenkins off the roster....

Golson is useless other than his speed. Can't hit, and looks awful in the field. So you want to take up an important roster spot with a guy who may pinch run once? Also, why is Sebathia an automatic loss for the Phils? He's got to be dead tired at this point.

I guess they are worried about the last two outings by Myers. That's the only logic I see with this move. Then, who's out of the guys in the bubble: Condrey, Seanez, Jenkins, Taguchi or Stairs?

Interesting and surprising... Golson have value as a pinch runner late in the game... Dave, are rosters able to be updated each series? So it would be possible Golson could be called on if the Phils advance?

i think they will regreat not putting golson on the roster, not necessarily for happ but maybe for iguchi. didn't they learn anything from the game golson won by scoring from 3rd on a grounder to 3rd? let's put it this way.. the phillies HAVE TO win games 1, 3, and 4 because CC is pitching games 2 and 5. how's that for pressure? golson would be an invaluable tool in the 8th or 9th of a tie game.
