Happ could miss a third start; Game likely to be played
David Murphy, Daily News Staff Writer
Just a few quick notes before I run across the street to do Daily News Live:
1) Charlie Manuel said he has been told that the steady rain that has been falling all day on South Philadelphia is expected to diminish around 6:30, leaving an opening that the Phillies believe will be big enough to play tonight's game against the Mets. Then again, Manuel was told the same thing before Game 5 of the World Series last year.
2) J.A. Happ is improving, but Manuel said that the lefthander could miss a third start due to the innercostal strain that has sidelined him since Monday. Happ was throwing lightly off of flat ground in right field today.
"It sounds like he is going to miss another one, but I'm not sure," Manuel said. He later labelled the chances of Happ returning in time for his scheduled start next week "50/50."
3) Clay Condrey said he felt good today and ready to return to competitive action, but said he did not know what the Phillies' plan for him was.
4) Scott Eyre has a bone chip in his elbow, but he said that he is determined to play through the pain. He will get a cortisone shot within the next couple of days, then try to get back on the mound. Eyre, who said he hopes to play again next season, said that doctors have told them there is a procedure they can perform in the offseason to alleviate the sharp pain caused by the chip.
Let's drop the grammar nonsense. Nobody went to school at all. Now that that's settled, let's deal with a real question. Eyre is going to ignore "sharp pain?" Well he better be too high on painkillers to legally drive. When something hurts, the urge to favor it is unconscious. Pushing or pulling at 100% is physically impossible in the presence of pain. If you do not believe me go to a weight room the next time you have a broken bone or sprained joint. See how little weight you can actually use, no matter how "tough" you think you are or how "hard" you are trying. The urge to avoid pain was here long before humans were. Delaware Jim
I luv the morons carecting gramer and spelling in dis section. Git a life 4 God's sake. BTW Murph, never change the pic, it's great. KevinRx
So when is JC Romero coming back? That might be as important as Scott. KGKoons
Green46: "It's" does mean "it is, but "it's" also means "it has." Got it? Get it? Good! oldman84
Double preposition is not so good as a double proposition! oldman84
This stuff has all the appeal of a Wheels analysis. Soon, we will be discussing a 'doubles defense', 'middle-in', and 'inside out.' Much too much of much too little. Like billychair at the buffet table. mick314
Yes, Eisenreich, you come across as an idiot. Your own grammar is atrocious, so please refrain from being so judgmental. Your comments lose all credibility. It kills me to see the English language so tortured in the Comments section. Didn't any of you take grammar in school? Brutal. phillyinsd
Not that it matters, but.... I believe it should be he "threw ON flat ground" Not "off" or "off of" for example: LHP J.C. Romero (forearm) threw on flat ground and felt fine scootch
I thought Eyre was going to retire as well. I guess his successful year has him reconsidering. They could use him actually, especially with Romero's probs this year. scootch
Murphy can write! Ain't it the truth and I'm an Englis Major and Alumni of Murph's school. #@!$%^ you grammar police. Get a life. brinkmang
i love ballss albanykey
While you kids were fighting over the King's English, did anyone notice the lovely Devan? Less grammar, more Devan! locofan
Scott Eyre hopes to play next season? Last I heard he said he was 90% sure he was going to retire. That seems like news to me. 40
Our lives are finite. Kudos to those of you wasting them in such a pointless conversation. Nutburgers

Murph, you've arrived, you have irrational haters. Congrats. DennyP
Sorry, Mr. Eisenreich. Green46 is correct - if you're going to call anyone on the carpet for bad grammar, yours should be impeccable. This makes you not unlike politicians who spout on about family values then run off to Argentina for some hot, steamy extramarital sex. Bobby G- green, youll notice that im not correcting grammar of people in the COMMENTS section, because they arent professionals like murphy. christ, guy, its the comment section. and if you want to flex your muscle, then you should know it's: "I was a journalism major, and I'm a PR pro..." or "I was a journalism major and am a PR pro...". So, the only difference between me and you, is that I'm not trying to be correct, and you are, yet you still made a mistake.
lol, good one murph, don't let the haters get to you, you do a good job on here robm0202
Eisenreich- The number of spelling and grammatical mistakes in blog posts these days is alarming. I'm confident that the rush to post a blog or tweet often means a skipped step in the editing process. I was a journalism major and I'm a PR professional, so at times it makes me crazy. However, if you are going to play grammar police, at least be smart enough to proof your own work, or at least smart to start. Your use of "its" is actually it's" for "it is." Got it? Green46- Rockinrob - I'm flattered that you find me sexy. Maybe my poor grammar is really to blame for me being single.
- yeah, its a double preposition. its wrong.
What does "sharp pain called by the chip" mean? 46 and 2
Actually, there's nothing incorrect about "off of flat ground." whofeelsit
Glad to see Eisey's using his tourettes outbursts to correct grammatical errors instead of just spouting profanity. LAEagle
Murph has no journalistic skills he tries to get by with his good looks. Look at his JC Penney catalog picture. rockinrob- "off flat ground," not "off of flat ground"...simple stuff murph
It seems like when it is cold and wet, the Philss don't like to play aggresive ball; hope that's not the case, though.... M60tanker
