Hamels will start Opening Day

Last year, Charlie Manuel dodged questions about his Opening Day starter throughout the early stages of spring training, ultimately surprising everyone by giving Brett Myers the offer. This time around, he ended any suspense early. As you might have expected, Cole Hamels will start Opening Day, the first time he has done so in his career. "You might as well go ahead and pencil him in," Manuel said. "There's no sense in me bull(bleeping) you." ^ Today was the first official workout for pitchers and catchers. Most noticable has been the number of players who have dropped signifant amounts of weight. Brett Myers is down 30 pounds and looks like a completely different person. Ryan Howard has dropped about 20. Scott Eyre has dropped about 10. It's like the Phillies clubhouse participated in a Biggest Loser challenge or something.
