Hamels to play stopper once again

POSTED: Sunday, May 25, 2008, 11:59 AM

Just some quick morning thoughts. . .

1) I'm not sure what to make of Brett Myers' performance last night. The line wasn't awful. But it once again fell short of the expectations for an Opening Day starter. The bright side: if you hold a team to four runs, it gives this Phillies' team a good chance to win. Not the last two nights, though.

2) Ryan Howard continues to groove. Any guesses on what his overall batting average is by the month of May? He has a chance to get it up past .220, depending on how these final six days go.

3) Afternoon matinee today with Cole Hamels on the hill. Say what you will about the rotation, at least Charlie Manuel has a bona fide stopper he can rely on.

"Say what you will about the rotation, at least Charlie Manuel has a bona fide stopper he can rely on." Except its Hamels in a day game - all bets are off.
