Cole Hamels appears to have rebounded from the worst back-to-back stretch of his young career, but the Phillies can't seem to get any offense off of the Marlins. Hamels just left the game with one out in the seventh inning. The bases are loaded, but that's not entirely his fault. first baseman Ryan Howard just threw away a ball that should have forced Matt Treanor out at second for teh second out of the inning. Instead, the throw sailed to the left of Jimmy Rollins and Treanor slid into the bag safely.
So here we sit, watching Ryan Madson warm up, waiting to see if he can escape from a pretty big jam.
Regardless of what happens on the mound, the story so far has been the Phillies' inability to muster any offense off of Florida righthander Chris Volstad. They didn't get their first hit until two outs in the fourth inning - on a single up the middle by Hamels - and as of the current moment have just three on the game. Volstad did walk four, giving the Phillies a few opportuinties with runners in scoring position, but they have not yet been able to capitalize.
