Ruiz out with right oblique strain; Hamels out after 3 2/3

Just received an update here in the press box:

Catcher Carlos Ruiz is out of the game with a right oblique strain. There is no word on how he suffered it. Chris Coste pinch-hit for Ruiz in the top of the seventh and has remained in the game.

We'll know more later. . .

Cole Hamels struggled today, allowing seven runs on 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings against the Rockies. My unofficial tally had him at 86 pitches when Charlie Manuel plucked him from the game and called J.A. Happ in from the bullpen.

I know a lot of people out there will look at his velocity -- it sat in between 85-86, reaching 90 once -- but that really didn't appear to be the problem. He had plenty of separation between his fastball and his change-up.

I'll find out more after the game when I talk to Manuel, Hamels and pitching coach Rich Dubee.
