X-rays negative on Hamels' bruised hand
Marcus Hayes
Phillies lefthanded starter Cole Hamels left today's game with a right hand contusion, which required X-rays. The X-rays were negative and is is expected to make his next start Tuesday in Florida.
With one out in the fourth inning Red Sox slugger Adrian Gonzalez hit a line drive up the middle and knocked Hamels' glove off. Hamels reached down, fielded the ball with his left hand and threw Gonzalez out, but was in obvious pain. As medical staff and coaches looked on, Hamels threw several practice pitches and remained in the game. He retired Dustin Pedroia on a groundout to end the inning but was replaced by reliever David Herndon in the top of the fifth.
Hamels allowed non runs, two hits and struck out two in his four innings. He will remain 9-4.
The Phillies' golden pitching staff already has five of its top pitchers on the DL: No. 3 starter Roy Oswalt (back), No. 5 starter Joe Blanton (elbow), closer Brad Lidge (shoulder), closer Jose Contreras (elbow) and closer Ryan Madson (hand).

Thanks for the quick and comforting report, Dave. I was about to test positive for heart failure! bergey66- Don't believe this. The Phillies lie. Lies and more Lies.
Breaking News: All Rule 5 players on the Phillies stink shawnmac
one of the players listed as a "top pitcher" on the DL is somebody named "lidge"... who is that? i think i remember someone by the name pitching on this club in 2008.. has he done anything worth mentioning since then.. or has he been a black hole draining dollars from the phils' bank account? zwarte piet

dross, be careful what you ask for. Carpenter just gave up 2 HRs. P Even
Wow - according to Murph Hamels gave up "non" runs! Like Fonzie, Murph never made it through high school. BringBackBowa
I hope somebody finds Bernard Hopkins today and asks him if he would have fought to stay in the game if he was on the mound and got a bruise on his non-pitching hand.. zwarte piet
I believe Marcus Hayes wrote the blog, not Murph. EL Zorro
It was probably the coaching staff's decision to take him out for precautionary reasons. they weren't going to let someone rush to warm up to replace him for 1 out. Besides, It's only June. Still 3+ months of baseball left. palmyra21
Good call Philly Mike on Victorino.... PhilliefaninAZ
