Halladay named NL Pitcher of the Year

Roy Halladay was named The Sporting News National League Pitcher of the Year in a vote by the players.

Halladay, of course, led the big leagues in ERA, won 21 games in the regular season and pitched a perfect game.

The American League Pitcher of the Year was Seattle's Felix Hernandez.

Players voted the Rangers' Josh Hamilton as the player of the year, ending Albert Pujols' two-year run as the top player.

Bud Black, who kept the San Diego Padres in the tight NL West race is the NL manager of the year. Ron Gardenhire was named the AL manager of the year.

Detroit Tigers centerfielder Austin Jackson and Atlanta Braves rightfielder Jason Heyward are the rookies of the year. Comeback players of the year are Texas Rangers DH Vladimir Guerrero and Atlanta Braves pitcher Tim Hudson.

Rafael Soriano, of the Rays, and Heath Bell, of the Padres, are the relievers of the year.
