Game Postponed

POSTED: Friday, September 12, 2008, 6:37 PM

Just received word tonight's game has been postponed.

It's the first rain out at CBP since April 16 of last season.

There will be a doubleheader on Sunday. First game is at 1:35. Second is at 7:35.

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said he'd rather play Monday, despite the fact that it means facing C.C. Sabathia. But the Brewers would have to agree. And from what I've heared, a doubleheader Sunday is a very real possibility.

Brett Myers will pitch on Sunday if it is a doubleheader. He'll thrown Monday if there is a game.

More to come.

Why would Charlie prefer facing Sabathia on Monday? Is he worried about the bullpen? Hamels will give you enough innings tomorrow. I'll take my chances with a DH on Sunday than facing Sabathia, who will neutralize our lefties, specially the struggling Utley.

You could say the Phils have no luck but then again they won four coin tosses in a row today. Could you imagine the odds on that? They better put themselves in a position of taking advantage of that stroke of luck. CC on Monday or a double header on Sunday is a tough call. Doubleheaders are normally splits and the Phils need 3 out of 4 here. If you win Saturday it makes it likely for the split on Sunday. If you win Saturday and play Sunday and Monday, then you have a better chance of a sweep in my opinion.

I have better sources than Murph... it will made up as part of a DH Sunday... 1:35 and 7:35. So, still no CC...

Odds of winning 4 coin tosses in a row are 1 in 16. I would have prefered the Monday game, although it meant facing CC Sabathia, but the Brewers don't have any other days off the rest of the year. The doubleheader makes sense, but would Milwaukee bring back CC on 3 days rest?

Zorro... probably because their rotation is a mess, and a DH only makes it more challenging. Now they have to play two tomorrow, then have on off day on Monday, then they can pitch Moyer on regular rest Tues. in ATL, but then what on Wed.? Hamels on short rest? Kendrick? Happ? Eaton? If Hamels pitches on short rest, then what on Thurs.? Blanton on short rest? Myers on short rest for the second straight start? Ugh...two rainouts the last two weekends did not do them any favors.

I think Myers was going to pitch the Monday game, not Moyers. I rather play the DH at home. The bullpen should be rested. Hamels is almost automatic to give us 7 today. Then mix and match the bullpen on Sunday in case one of the starters doesn't give you enough innings. It would be nice for 'innings-eater' Blanton to live up to his nickname on Sunday.

    This throws off the end-of-season rotation. Now we need a 5th starter to make 2 appearances instead of one... assuming the preceding rotation you gave earlier this week Dave and adjusted for the DH tomorrow, it now looks like this: 9/13. . . .Brewers. . . .Hamels/ 9/14. . . .Brewers. . . .Blanton/ 9/14. . . .Brewers. . . .Myers/ 9/15. . . .Off. . . . . .N/A/ 9/16. . . .at Braves. . .Moyer/ 9/17. . . .at Braves. . .???/ 9/18. . . .at Braves. . .Hamels/ 9/19. . . .at Marlins. . Blanton/ 9/20. . . .at Marlins. . Myers/ 9/21. . . .at Marlins. . Moyer/ 9/22. . . .Braves. . . . Hamels/ 9/23. . . .Braves. . . . Blanton/ 9/24. . . .Braves. . . . ???/ 9/25. . . .Off. . . . . .N/A/ 9/26. . . .Nationals. . .Myers/ 9/27. . . .Nationals. . .Moyer/ 9/28. . . .Nationals. . .Hamels

Happ should get at least one of the starts.
