It seemed like nothing could go wrong.

Cole Hamels was on the mound and pitching well.

The line-up had an early lead.

The ballpark was electric.

Then the rains came. Tonight's game has been suspended in the middle of the sixth inning with the score tied 2-2. The Phillies had a 2-1 lead heading into the inning, but the Rays tied it in the bottom of the frame.

More later.

No way Myers goes on the mound tommorrow...it will be Romero, Eyre, Madson, then Lidge most likely- it will be a save situation for sure unless the phils explode... Dobbs leads off as a PH, which is awesome, and will allow Romero or Madson to pitch more than 1 inning each

I agree with Mitch Williams, game should be starting at top of 6th with phils lead 2-1. That is a joke what Hamels had to pitch in but Tampa Bay does not.

First of all no way i wanted us to win the series by a rain shortened game...but Bud Selig is an absolute joke, saying he wasnt going to allow the game to end bc of weather. If that was his intention then call it after 5..terrible judgement by him. Its amazing that he also can overturn a rulebook call that cleary states the protocall (again it would have sucked to win like this) just seems like a gray area for such a big decision. Bad all around by him.

This is the most unfair, biased series I have ever seen and I am sick to my stomach with the 100% anti-Philadelphia attitude that has existed forever, and is only being shown more and more true this World Series. No one looks at Philadelphia in a positive light in any realm, not just sports. But I can't take it. What did we do to deserve this?! How many cities fans would have stayed through the rain? Or would have tickets so expensive? How are we rewarded?? We have an ace pitcher in Cole Hamels who has a chance to be the first player IN HISTORY to win 5 postseason games, and now the only way to do it is if the Phillies score in the bottom of the sixth? After Baseball makes him pitch in terrible conditions and he gives up a run? And they don't allow the Rays to pitch under those same conditions? This is amazing. I cann't comprehend the thought process behind this without it being anti-Philadelphian. And now our city is being blasted by national media for it RAINING? And how people think Tampa Bay's stadium has an advantage because it has a ROOF? That the game should be resumed THERE?! I don't understand it. I don't understand the hate for the city of brotherly love. But it's there, and it's palpable. You can feel it. Cities like New York, the smelliest, ugliest city I have ever been in, and Washington DC, which narrowly loses to New York only because the smells aren't so bad, are hailed as marvelous cities - marvelous cities with horrible traffic problem, urban blight, and a miserable experience - while people hate on our city all the time without ever having visited. And tourists I see on the streets, not one has told me they were wrong about the city. Not one. They all are amazed at our parks and sidewalks and trees, and how warm and friendly (and not fat or ugly) we are. But the country hates us. And all it does is breed more generations of Philadelphians who have this complex. And it won't change unless the country changes first.

I need to get my comment published somewhere Jim. Not enough people are going to see it, and it is probably a good idea of how most Philadelphians feel. Especially seeing our city left off national maps so they can make room for NEW YORK and WASHINGTON D.C.

Dr. Steve, Great post. Maybe if phillyfan stopped cheering career ending injuries as players lay motionless on the field, stopped mocking players over the death of their child, stopped pouring beer on 9 year old boys, stopped throwing mustard packets at 7 year old girls, stopped chasing opposing fans into bathroom stalls for fear of getting killed. Maybe if phillyfan stopped all that barbaric behavior the rest of the country would stop looking at the great city of Philadelphia as the cess pool of scum bags that it has become. Just a thought.

Does anyone else think the Phillies got a raw deal from Bud Selig? It was raining just as hard in the bottom of the 6th inning on Monday as it was in the top of the 6th. How is it that the Rays were allowed 6 at-bats while the Phillies were only allowed 5? Aren't we the home team? The Tampa Bay Rays, this season at least, were built on manufacturing runs: stealing bases, playing hit-and-run, etc. As Upton clearly showed last night, in the top of the 6th, the weather had no effect on the Rays' style of play whatsoever. So why not let the Phils take the field in the bottom of the 6th and make it fair? The weather certainly wasn't any worse than it had been when Upton was on base and the majority of the Phillies' runs have come via the home run ball anyway; they would've had a harder time hitting it out of the park ... but at least give them a chance! I'm sure Selig jumped at the chance to suspend the game as soon as it was tied. I'm willing to bet that if the Rays had scored more than one run in the 6th the Phillies would've been allowed to bat but, since it was conveniently tied, Selig and the officiating crew chickened out and suspended the game. I was in the stadium for Game 6 in 1980 and, even though I've moved to Oregon, I still follow my Phillies fanatically and think baseball dealt us a bad hand on Monday.
