Game 3 start time pushed back

POSTED: Saturday, October 9, 2010, 11:49 PM

The Yankees' sweep of the Twins in the American League Division Series means the Phillies-Reds game Sunday night has been pushed back an hour to an 8:07 p.m. start time. The game will be shown on TBS.

Major League Baseball had announced the change was possible a few days ago, pending how many games were needed Sunday. With the end of the Yankees-Twins ALDS, there now will be three games Sunday. Game 4 of the Rays-Rangers series begins at 1 p.m. followed by Game 3 of the Giants-Braves series at 4:30 p.m. and then Game 3 of the Phillies-Reds series.

Had there been four games Sunday, Phillies-Reds would have been at 7:07 p.m. on TNT.

Of course, the later start for baseball further heightens the overlap between the Phillies and the Eagles-Niners game on Sunday Night Football on NBC, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 p.m.

A Phillies playoff game and an Eagles game overlapped two years ago with the Phillies visiting the Brewers in Game 4 of the NLDS and the Eagles hosting the Redskins with both starting at 1 p.m.

Beyond the obvious economic incentive, I don't understand the fetish of playing in prime time. The earlier in the day, the better (warmer) the weather. Fans who feel slighted by the scheduling aren't thinking this through...

Bengals play at 1, Eagles at 8. Why isn't this game at 4?

So instead of capturing the entire Philadelphia market, MLB has decided that it desperately needs that all important San Fran market? I guess this is the price of fame, the Phils have a national following now, we are wanted in prime time.

Only George W. Bush is more incompetent than Bud Selig.

eldiablodelsol2009 and thefadd, you're both wrong. Obama is far more incompetent then both those men. Besides who cares about the Eagles, they're going nowhere. Phillies all the way.

Changing the starting time of a professional sporting event less than 24 hours before it starts is totally ridiculous.
