Fox Sports: Phillies among most aggressive in pursuit of Beltran

Some more pre-trade-deadline fodder:

Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, who usually has a pretty good handle on all things Phillies, is reporting that the Phils and Red Sox have been two of the most aggressive suitors for Mets' right fielder Carlos Beltran.

Beltran will be owed about $6 million as of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, but the Mets are willing to pick up most of that tab if it results in a better package of prospects.

What would a Phillies line-up look like with Beltran?

  1. Jimmy Rollins SS
  2. Shane Victorino CF
  3. Chase Utley 2B
  4. Ryan Howard 1B
  5. Carlos Beltran RF
  6. Raul Ibanez LF
  7. Wilson Valdez 3B
  8. Carlos Ruiz C

That would change when Placido Polanco returns. Beltran is a switch-hitter, which would give the Phillies extraordinary balance.
