Kyle Drabek, who may have surpassed Carlos Carrasco as the organization's top pitching prospect, will pitch in the 2009 Futures Game, scheduled for All-Star Week in St. Louis. Drabek is 3-0 with a 2.08 ERA in four starts at Double A Reading and is 7-1 with a 2.36 ERA in 13 starts between Clearwater and Reading.

Drabek is one of two Phillies who will participate in the game, which has featured the likes of Cole Hamels and Ryan Howard in the past.

Yohan Flande, a 22-year-old lefthander currently at Class A Clearwater, will pitch for the World Team. Flande is 7-1 with a 2.52 ERA in 13 starts this season.

Last year, righthander Carlos Carrasco, short stop Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson all competed in the game.

I hate to be a nitpicker, but there's no apostrophe in "Futures Game". I know it's not like the old days when you could sit and work on a story until it was just right, but is it too much to ask the online version of the newspaper of record for a major metropolitan area to avoid glaring punctuation errors in its headlines?

fladd, he's 7-1 this season between A and AA ball. I'd say he's recovered pretty nicely! I've heard on a few different broadcasts that young guys who have TJ surgery sometimes come out of it stronger than they were before the injury.

It's impossible to know for sure but it certainly looks like Drabek has passed Carrasco. He's excelling already at Reading and I'm not sure it would be shocking if he came up for September. Some say he could be better than his dad. Me, I'd take another just like him.

Do you think Carrasco is recoverable? He's 3-7, 5.20. For the last 2 years he's loomed pretty large among prospects and in trade talks, but he's struggling against AAA hitters. Hope it's just growing pains. If Drabek and Flande are the real deal, and if Savery turns out to be effective, the rotation could look terrific 2 or 3 years down the road. I know it's a lot of if's but....

Just getting ready to head to Reading to see Drabek and Taylor where the stars of tomorrow play today. Sure better than watching on TV J-Roll lead off with an air ball out a little after 7 down in St. Pete. Then make an air head play in the field close and late!

Hey Phils, please don't let our talent waste their arms in the minors like you're prone to do. Out here in SF they brought up Cain and Lincecum at 21 and 22yrs of age. Something I never see the Phils do! Bring them up as starters or relief, every bit helps!
