After the Phils traded Hunter Pence and Shane Victorino, the only constant in the new-look outfield was Domonic Brown. Whether in left or right, Brown was an everyday fixture in the lineup.

Until this weekend, at least.

Brown, who has been plagued with injuries in the last three years, was out of the lineup on Sunday while battling soreness in his knees. It was the second straight game Brown didn't start after making 24 starts in a row.

With Monday's day off in the Phillies schedule, Brown will get three full days to rest.Brown had previously dealt with a left knee injury at Triple A Lehigh Valley this summer.

“One day definitely makes a difference in baseball," Brown said of getting an additional day off after Saturday. "It’s never a bad thing to get one day."

Phillies lineup vs. Washington righthander Jordan Zimmermann:

1. Jimmy Rollins, SS
2. Juan Pierre, LF
3. Chase Utley, 2B
4. Ryan Howard, 1B
5. John Mayberry Jr., CF
6. Laynce Nix, RF
7. Kevin Frandsen, 3B
8. Erik Kratz, C
9. Cliff Lee, P

I think it's about time for Rube to sign him to a long-term, multi-million dollar contract even though he is injury prone.

playing 24 games in a row ,and some in different positions will wear your body down. we should make him a fixture in right field. let mayberry play everyday in center and rotate pierre/nix/that kid from AA hitting homers.let brown play when he is healthy , he's been showing signs of life.

That young man could use some muscle to protect that crazy "baby deer" like frame he has. He's an accident waiting to happen.

Hey, I like his eye at the plate and arm in right field as much as the next guy. That being said a no power, injury prone RF is not what we want to be counting on next year.

"playing 24 games in a row ,and some in different positions will wear your body down." Wow. Because baseball is so physical. He's hurt all the time..some guys are just pre-disposed to being easily injured. If he's this way now what will it be like as he gets older?

I must say I can't say how alternating between corner outfield positions is going to increase the likelihood of injury. As for 24 games...ask Ripken about something like that.

I think he has shown enough to be the starter in right next year however. If he gets injured too much we go from there having given him his shot.

Hopefully we can obtain a true center fielder. Left could be upgraded as well, but Ruf could potentially be that guy if he tears up winter ball and plays left adequately.

As for third, I am of the mind to use Frandsen next year with the expectation of Asche taking over in 2014.

Played 24 games in a row, is wearing his body down ???
Poor Boy ! Shows signs of life ? Wow !
Hitting one home run in 24 games, has flubbed 2 plays badly in the field, made a nice recovery after running a bad route, threw 2 runners out (good plays) constantly is injured ,,,,and someone wants to make him a fixture in right field. The foul pole is a fixture. It provides a benefit to the game.
In any sport, you shouldn't GIVE someone a position without he, or she earning it. I highly doubt, any organization other than the Phillies sign players to play because they show signs of life !
If that's a prerequisite for a spot on the team, we may as well sign up the grounds keepers. They're on the field, and show signs of life !

Just what we need in this town, another writer who will say whatever the team's thinking is on players, the manager and the pitching coach. Boy is it any wonder that newspapers are a dying industry? My 3 year old gtranddaughter could write a better article than this. The Inky is proving an age old cliche, you get what you pay for ....

I want to know the maximum number of games Brown has played in a row (barring just a regular rest day) without having to sit for an injury reason. Seriously. This kid needs to figure out how to train properly to be a major league athlete.
