Pre-game notes: Dobbs stays, line-up

Greg Dobbs will remain in the Phillies organization. The veteran left-handed hitter, designated for assignment yesterday, has cleared waivers and will accept an assignment to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The move provides the Phillies with major-league-ready depth, and Dobbs with an opportunity to get regular playing time, which both he and the club hope will shake him out of the offensive funk that has plagued him this season.
"To me, that was the purpose of sending Dobbs down," manager Charlie Manuel said, "was to send him down and let him stay there for awhile and get some at-bats."

J.A. Happ will make his fourth rehab start tonight at Reading. It's an important night for Happ, who is scheduled to throw between 80-90 pitches. He is still looking to improve the life on his fastball, which GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said yesterday is averaging around 87-88. While Amaro said he was confident Happ would eventually reclaim the final few ticks he needs, he also conceded that if it does not happen, the Phillies will have to consult with doctors about the next step. That doesn't mean that tonight is make-or-break. It just means that Happ still has a big hurdle to clear before the Phillies seriously consider putting him back into the rotation.
