Dobbs now a free agent
David Murphy, Daily News Staff Writer
Quick update here:
The Phillies have made a few moves involving their 40-man roster.
The headliner is probably Greg Dobbs becoming a free agent. The Phillies had the option of offering him arbitration, but instead removed him from the 40-man roster, at which point the veteran infielder elected to become a free agent.
Jamie Moyer also elected free agency, although that was more of a procedural move, with the Phillies clearing his spot on the 40-man roster. Moyer's contract expired at the end of the season. Five days after the World Series, he will be free to sign with any team.
The Phillies also outrighted catcher Paul Hoover to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Hoover then elected free agency.
They now have 38 players on the 40-man roster.
Trade Rollins while he still has some value. Resign Werth. Did anybody notice this team played strong the last two weeks of the season with Valdez at short. Soon as Rollins came back the team didn't play as well in the field and at the plate. Fast Eddie
Trade Victorino and keep Werth. Put Werth in center and Dominic Brown in left. beaglemommy- Yo can't trade Victorino now with Jimmy's leg issues. Who's going to lead off is Jimmy keeps getting hurt? And Victorino's salary is only 9mil. That's not enough to keep Werth. EL Zorro
I don't disagree with Rollin's production and I don't mind seeing a different face at SS. HOWEVER, Rollins is the spark on this team, he is the catalyst. Granted it didn't do much this year, but if JRoll is gone, who is going to keep the team relaxed and lighhearted? As good as Utleyis, I would hate to play on a team with 10 Utleys. Other than that, I don't mind Jroll gone. penncrow19
Oops, I meant to say Brown in right!! beaglemommy- Face it, Werth is gone. Phillies can't/wont' pay $15mil/yr for Werth.

News flash..The Phils just improved their team by dropping two players. Landman
Dominic Brown isn't near ready for a full time starting spot. They should have him platoon with Francisco (a much needed right handed bat) and then if he proves himself make him the starter in the OF. This is what we did with Jenkins and Werth...Jayson rose to the occasion and earned his spot! ehpvirgo
i don't have a problem with valdez as every day ss, what did rollins bat the last couple of yrs. .240? sgamble077
I definitely don't believe J-Roll is done. He is the unquestioned leader of this team. Look at Cal Ripken and Jeter. Ripken had a down year in 1990 batting .250 came back the next year and won the AL MVP. And he was the same age as Jimmy is now. Jeter also had a down year in 2008 but bounced back strong last year. He isn't finished, he was plagued with injuries. You need to keep Valdez as a utility guy behind Utley, Jimmy and Placido. Trade Vic to keep Werth. There is no way anyone will take Rauulll. If not, watch out for Werth and Lee in Queens next year! kwasi2323- Good call here. J-Roll is the leader of the team. Despite his struggles this past year, he brings an unspeakable/unmatchable swagger to the team. Everyone feeds off him. Peace to Vic. Do what we can to keep Werth.

Moyer- you are the man! Thank you for everything that you have done for the Phillies and the Philadelphia community. We will be greatly missed! centercityisthebest
Werth is going to get a monster contract from someone. Phil's would be foolish to match. Let him go people. In two years he will be Aaron Rowand. I loved the guy when he was here, but I'm glad he's not sitting on my bench with that monster contract. Vote for Dickie- I agree with everyone saying that Rollins should be traded.
Trade Rollins and Ibanez to the west coast, and get what you can preferably someone who can hit. Get rid of Herndon, Durbin, & Baez then pick up a lefthanded setup man. Werth goes to leftfield and Francisco/Brown platoon in right. Gload is bench for OF and 1st. Valdez at short and Bocock is bench for 3rd, ss, & 2nd. Don't know if Sweeney will stay but he was a great help when Howard was sidelined. Shop for decent pinch hitters for the bench and think about a lefty closer preferably not Zagursky. SEE IF TERRY PENDELTON WOULD LIKE A NEW HOME IN PHILLY. That may be the best thing that could happen to Howard and the rest. Bring up Mayberry for the bench. Wally 24
