This just in from the winter meetings in Vegas. . .
Former Philadelphia baseball players Dick Allen, Mickey Vernon and Sherry Magee all were denied entry to the Hall of Fame today in voting by baseball's Veterans Committee. Former Yankees and Indians infielder Joe Gordon was the only player elected to the Hall in voting announced this afternoon.
Allen, who played for the Phillies from 1963-1969 and again from 1975-76, hit .292/.378/.534 for his career with 351 home runs and 1,119 RBI. The NL Rookie of the Year in 1964 as a 23-year-old third baseman, Allen later won the AL MVP while a member of the Chicago White Sox in 1972.
Allen received just seven of the necesarry 48 votes to gain entry.
