Here are details of the contract Phillies rightfielder Ben Francisco agreed to Saturday to avoid arbitration:

Base salary: $1,175,000

Performance incentives: $25,000 each for 400, 450 and 500 plate appearances.

Award bonuses: $25,000 for All-Star election or selection, $50,000 for Most Valuable Player (or $25,000 for second or $15,000 for third), $25,000 for LCS MVP, $50,000 for World Series MVP, $25,000 for Gold Glove, $25,000 for Silver Slugger.

Righthander Kyle Kendrick is the Phillies only other arbitration eligible player. Numbers will be exchanged Tuesday. Hearings begin February 1. Players may sign at any time prior to the hearing.

Who the hell would give up a real bat for Blanton?
I think San is going to play well this year. He's not going to put up Werth's numbers, but I bet he hits better with RISP....and not really losing that much on D either...all for $1.2 million (I'll assume he gets one of those incentives). But I will also sh*t my pants if he gets the MVP. But how scary-good would this team be if he were even in the running?

damn i wish someone would give me 1.175 million to suck at playing baseball. they could have signed me for half that and i would have contributed just as much to the team as francisco will.
