DeRosa traded

POSTED: Wednesday, December 31, 2008, 2:11 PM

Well, Penn product Mark DeRosa was traded by the Chicago Cubs. But not to the Phillies and not as part of a multi-team arrangement involving San Diego ace Jake Peavy, as had been rumored during the winter meetings.

Instead, DeRosa is heading to Cleveland. He was traded for minor league pitchers Jeff Stevens, Chris Archer and John Gaub and now could become the Indians' starting third baseman.

DeRosa hit .285 with 21 home runs and drove in 87 runs for the Cubs last season.

Plenty of room indeed...and with the MLB network, I can watch my beloved Phils win again and again...

Great point ChekUrFax! Some baseball fans are too snotty for their own good. Even if you are a player yourself, that doesn't give you the right to tell someone not to post because they don't know as much as you. I say - the more fans the better! I have been a fan since 1984 (age 11) by the way.

Whatever gulls, so Vincent can't be a fan until he has a Masters degree in baseball? Again, lighten up. There's plenty of room on the Phillies bandwagon.

hey Chek, Im actually a single-A player in the Phillies farm system, and whose family has been season ticket holders for years. I know Feliz can play, I was stating that Vincent above should know that and know that Feliz doesnt need another chance. So I may ask, who are you?

Vincent-please do not write on here again nor call yourself a fan until you actually know something about this team. that comment above is utterly ridiculous

Salary dump. Miles takes his job. I know nothing about these prospects and DeRosa is fine, but lets not give up three pitchers for someone who will play 100 games.

This is one rumored deal that we can be thankful did not go down. Too much of the farm was rumored for a "super utility player."

Vincent- Do you know anything? Do you even care about anything? First, it's "DeRosa"; second, he was not coming to Philly to play 3rd in place of Feliz...He would have played 2nd 'til Utley returned and then LF to replace Burrell... Happy New Year... PK

The purpose of the trade is to balance the right-handed heavy lineup, clear some room on the payroll to sign Milton Bradley, and add a few attractive young players in order to revisit the Peavy talks. They just signed Aaron Miles to play second, who is a switch hitter, and are about to sign Milton Bradley to play RF, who is also a switch hitter. They also just got rid of a healthy portion of Jason Marquis's money.

good deal for the Indians, greatly improves their team for the upcoming season...as for the Cubs end of this - I think they are just trying to clear some payroll so they can sign Milton Bradley...which is why they'll probably deal Jason Marquis too

Phillies would have to give up too much for La Rosa. Lets give Feliz another chance.

Are the Cubs out of their minds? Instead of getting Jake Peavey, they get a few minor league pitchers. De Rosa helped the Cubs finish with the best record in the National League. I guess they are expecting Fukudome to show up next season. I hope DeRosa thrives in the American League.
