I've noticed an alarming trend at Citizen's Bank Ballpark this season. Countless young married couples - most of whom seem like good people - have fooled themselves into thinking that it is socially acceptable to wear his and hers Chase Utley jerseys to Phillies games.

I just took a random poll around the press box, and my feelings have been confirmed: it's pathetic.

Hey, I know what it's like to be young and in love. Actually, no I don't. But I can imagine what it is like. And I'm sure it makes you do crazy things like frolicking through fields of wildflowers and walking hand in hand and, of course, quilting.

But I draw the line at his and hers jerseys.

HUSBAND: Honey, the Phils have a big series against the Rockies tonight. We should go.

WIFE: Babe, we were supposed to watch the season fianle of A Wedding Story together.

HUSBAND: But it's Memorial Day! And the weather is beautiful! I can almost smell the hot dogs now!

WIFE: Well, OK. But only if I can completely embarass you by making you wear the same Chase Utley jersey as me!

I'm not judging you, fellas. I'm just warning you: it's a good way to get your Man Card permanently revoked.

Besides, she looks cute in the jersey.

You don't.

What if i'm wearing an Utley jersey and she has on a Burrell jersey or a Victorino t-shirt? Is that pathetic? I'm just checking because we're going to the game on Saturday and I don't want to be "that guy". It's not like a his and hers thing then.

The fact that you are even checking out the "guys" says it all ! And anybody who worries about what home jersey they wear, isn't able to man up anyway ...

It is not the jersey that makes the man ... more or less "manly" , it the man judging what other men should or are wearing, that does that !

Come on Dave... You really can come up with better stuff than this!!!

I like the direction of the blog. Dave, your next article should be about how overy excited the fans get when they are selected as the "citizen 7". It's hilarious how they spaz out over a corporate t-shirt and a green womens handbag.

Awful. Chase Utley is the man and if I want to wear his jersey I could care less what other people think. And if my hot girlfriend who admires him also wants to wear his jersey so be it. Does it matter that I wear the actual jersey and she wears the t-shirt one? Lets find Murph a girl or guy (not sure yet), because he is obviously lonely.

Personally, I think it's kinda cute. If nothing else, it shows that your significant other is taking an interest in something that interests you. Granted, the woman in that relationship is probably wearing the jersey as much because she thinks Chase Utley is kind of cute as anything else, but she's taking an interest. Isn't that what all guys want? As for me, I have a Ken Griffey Jr. jersey from his Seattle Mariners days. I bought it not only because he's still got the best swing in baseball, but also because he's kinda hot. Since my significant other is a Orioles fan, we don't have that problem. By the way, if anyone can tell me where to find one a XL Griffey Seattle Mariners practice jersey (the blue one), please contact me at nuttyprofessor64@gmail.com. Money's no object.

i'll bet those 'mos in new england wear his and hers tom brady jerseys. and that's worse... utley is a female-only jersey, it just is. it's a shame because he's a tough player.

Leron, How old are you? Why do you have a man crush on Vicente Padilla? Does wearing a sweat stained jersey make you more of a man? Are we not allowed to show our support anymore for our boys by wearing a jersey? Keep posting though, I honestly come here a few times a day just to see if you posted so I can get a cheap laugh. Dave

i'll bet davemarsh's girlfriend is built like ryan howard. "my hot girlfriend." let her wear the jersey and you wear a hat. not like you need the jersey because they're going to ask you pinch hit.

Right, because Utley jerseys of any size are completely obscure, coveted pieces of merchandise. There's absolutely no chance that the couple could just be a pair of Phillies fans, wearing their gear. You're right, the most logical explanation is that the female half of the couple insisted her partner wear his jersey to emasculate him. She probably hates baseball and sports in general. If that's the attitude in the press box about female fans, no wonder newspaper circulation is in free fall.

If she'll kiss me in a Utley jersey, it's fine with me ... in only wearing an Utley jersey even better ... the line is drawn at a T.O. jersey though ... if she still owns one, she's gone !

Well I have an Utley jersey and wear it often because he represent the kind of blue collar, hard nosed player that deserves to make 85 million dollars over X amount of years. If somebody wants to parade around in a Howard jersey just because he's bigger and "manlier" than Chase, that's your choice. My girl likes Burrell and Victorino anyway.
