Could Freddy Garcia end up back in Philly?

Short answer: probably not.

Long answer: the Phillies had a scout at Freddy Garcia's workout at the University of Miami today. And, certainly, if he somehow blew them away they wouldn't be opposed to bringing him back. Assistant general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. Amaro said Garcia’s agent, Ed Greenburg, told him Garcia wouldn’t have any problem returning to the Phillies, where he made just 11 starts last season before going on the disabled list with a season-ending shoulder injury.

But the Phillies haven't gotten a report yet on Garcia, and right now there's no reason to believe they are looking at him as a viable candidate to join the roster.

"We're just making sure we see the guy pitch," Amaro said.

One guy the Phillies are definitely interested in in Chicago lefthander Scott Eyre, a reliever who was designated for assignment by the Cubs today.

Eyre was a solid lefty reliever for several seasons, but has been on the DL a couple of times this season and has been hit hard in his last three outings.

That said, Amaro admitted the team has some interest. Nevertheless, they'd either have to trade for him or claim him off of waivers, meaning a number of other teams might be able to get him as well.

That's the latest from the ballpark. . .
