Chipper, Heyward out for tonight's game
David Murphy, Daily News Staff Writer
The Phillies get a couple of breaks tonight. Jason Heyward is out of the line-up with a continued case of soreness in his oblique, also known as the muscle that currently has Cliff Lee on the disabled list. According to Atlanta Journal-Constitution Braves beat writer David O'Brien, Heyward is looking toward a Thursday return.
The 22-year-old Heyward is hitting .273/.341/.442 with two home runs, eight steals and 20 strikeouts in 77 at bats. He is 3-for-13 with a home run and four strikeouts against Cole Hamels.
Also, Chipper Jones is out of the line-up. He's been hampered by some pain in his surgically repaired left knee. That's good news for Hamels, who has allowed four doubles, two home runs and seven walks to Jones in 41 career plate appearances against him.
Matt Diaz is in right field in place of Heyward, Juan Francisco at third base in place of Jones.
How pathetic we are when ancient chipper jones is better than anyone in our lineup. how many gold gloeves has he won? wildgreenman
It doesn't matter, phillies are old, they stink and will finish 3rd in the east even if howard, utley are back. mike64
Thank God it's not 2008. I give Chipper his due though. Incredible career and all with the Braves. Yes, no gold glove but it was always about the bat with Chipper.

The Phils can use any break they can get and if the Braves are short a couple of important pieces, hooray for our side! This is a must win series. If the Phils can take 2 of 3 and inch up in the race, they will have done their job. I expect that Washington will fall back and if the Phils can help that process this week, they can be within shouting distance of first despite their cold April. The rest of the dividion is not that great. With their pitching, when the lineup is healthy, they Phils should have enough to make the playoffs. The however is that it is becoming obvious that they need to do some serious retooling for next year. Right now, they cannot complete with the best teams. They have a lot to prove. gotedge- Could be a good night. The Phils are playing decent ball. One big outfield gaffe but decent enough hitting. Meanwhile the Nats look like they could drop their 5th straight and the Mets are losing. Still early ...
Nice to see Mayberry make something happen. s

Back to 500 again. Tomorrow they fall again. eaglesman1
