Carrasco scratched from Triple A start
Daily News staff
Some potentially interesting developments as the trade deadline approaches at Triple A Lehigh Valley this morning.
Pitcher Carlos Carrasco was scratched from his scheduled start this morning against Columbus. There is no indication that Carrasco is hurt.
Shortstop Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson also were not in the Ironpigs' lineup. However, Donald is coming off knee surgery and was not scheduled to play with an early day game after a night game. Marson caught last night and also might be sitting out for the same reason.
An earlier report that outfielder Michael Taylor was not playing for Lehigh Valley is incorrect.
Meanwhile, ESPN.com is reporting that the Indians have three scouts at the Triple A game, possibly pointing to the acquisition of Cliff Lee.
Phillies scout Charley Kerfeld watched Lee pitch Sunday. He was in Seattle last night to see Jarrod Washburn and is scheduled to be there again today to see Toronto's Roy Halladay.
In another move, the Phillies promoted Scott Mathieson from Clearwater to Double A Reading. Lefthander reliever Jason Mackintosh was placed on the disabled list. Mathieson's promotion does not appear related to a potential deal, but he could be a late-season bullpen option for the Phillies if his recovery is coming along as well as reported.
More to come ...
smells like Cliff Lee... j_romes

Doubt Halladay would pitch tonite if it was him. Phils would want that start for them. We'll see but Lee not a bad catch at all. tpizza
Let's do it....Lee for the next 1.5 years.....Drabek and Happ for 10 years FloridaBrian- Scott Mathieson being promoted? Could it be Reading suddenly has an opening in their rotation? booman55
Carrasco to Indians, Drabek to Lehigh Valley, Mathieson to Reading. PSU DEJA BLUE
Let's not forget that Lee is the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner and posted a 22-3 record last year with a 2.34 ERA...if they get this kind of player without giving up Happ OR Drabek, this is a great deal for the Phillies. My two biggest fears 1. A too left heavy rotation (but let's remember everyone was worried about the same thing with their starting lineup at the beginning of the year) 2. The Red Sox signing Halladay. gptfreak
twothousandeight: you are stupid. amaro stupid? how about raul ibanez. how about 18 games over .500. go back to kissing your picture of howard eskin. Philth
Whatever's up - good for Scott Mathieson. The article about him a month or so ago was really interesting...maybe someone at the website could post a link. B in DC
twothousandetc: are you always such a moron? If this deal happens we just got last year's Cy Young winner and kept both Happ and Drabek. We also saved 7 million dollars to get relief pitchers, a RHB etc. Our rotaton will be Hamels, Lee, Blanton, Happ, Pedro/Moyer/Lopez. Not bad at all. It will also allow us to resign Blanton next year. fan_in_jerusalem- Good thought, Booman. That would indicate Drabek is being held back as a potential trade chip, too. jpk
twothousandeight - Your a tool dude, get off of this website if you have nothing good to say.. Lee is a good move for the team, especially if they don't have to give up Drabek.. Win Win for the phils.. gallen024- If the Phils do land Lee without having to part with Happ, the rotation suddenly has 7 guys in it. You'll have Moyer, Lopez and Martinez at slot 5. I suppose it's possible that Lopez could be dealt for a low-level prospect or minor bullpen help. Hell, they could turn around and flip Blanton if they thought it would get them a top-notch reliever. jpk
- ESPN is reporting that 3 Cleveland scouts are at the game. Looks like Cliff Lee will be wearing a Phils jersey soon......
If you think getting Lee, one of the top 10 pitchers in the majors, without giving up Drabek OR Happ is a bad move, then you're a moron. JimG
